We kick-off the week with a competitive eight-race program out of Scone Race Club on Monday afternoon and we should be in for perfect conditions. The weather heading into the week looks ideal for the expected Good 4 surface and with the rail in the true position the entire circuit, we’ll be hoping for an even playing field come the first race at 12:45pm AEST.
Best Bet at Scone: Once Again My Girl
We’ll be looking to get the best bet of the afternoon out of the way in the opener as Once Again My Girl will be searching for back-to-back wins. Her win at this course over the 1000m was exceptional to the eye when going on to score a dominant 3.8 lengths on March 20. She led them up and put pave to her opposition, giving them a galloping lesson in the process. This is obviously a much tougher task for this daughter of Star Turn going against Class 1 company and the extra 100m is a minor concern; however, if she runs out the 1100m, which the first-up run suggests she will, we’re happy to make her the favoured bet on the Scone program. Young apprentice Braith Nock takes the reins again and will be looking to scoot across to find the rail, if he does, it might be all over a long way out.

Next Best at Scone: Cheval Savant
Cheval Savant only just missed the best bet nod for us coming out of some key form references heading into Monday. He was beaten significantly in the Group 1 Australian Derby on April 1 but simply didn’t handle the testing Heavy track conditions at Randwick. Prior to that he was impressive finishing just 2.2 lengths off Bank Maur in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley and if he runs up to that form, he’s clearly the one to beat in Class 1 company. This gelding out of Savabeel will stay all day long and the 2200m journey won’t phase this Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained galloper. They had a big enough opinion of this guy to run in a Derby, and that’s good enough for us to suggest he’s got plenty of ability.

Best Value Bet: Jumeirah Beach
Jumeirah Beach is a galloper that’s hard to catch but we think he can replicate his winning effort form two starts back on Monday afternoon. He goes around in the penultimate race of the program and after a run on extremely heavy conditions, we’re willing to forgive this son of Pride Of Dubai. Take him on his run at Canberra from March 12 when going on to score a half-length victory over the 1400m and he’s clearly the quality galloper in this Class 3 field. He does plenty of things wrong, but his raw ability has seen him win three of his eight start and with some luck from barrier eight, we’re convinced Jumeirah Beach can only run well on Monday. He should be in the top half of the field turning for home and giving each-way followers a bold sight.
