The new week of racing is set to get underway at Scone Race Club on Monday afternoon, with a quickfire seven-part program lined up for punters.
The rail moves out +5m between the 800m and 400m markers, while the remainder stays in the true position throughout.
The track is rated a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances, however, with sunny skies forecast to start the week, punters can anticipate an upgrade to the Good range prior to the opening event at 1:45pm local time.
Best Bet at Scone: Zucchero
Zucchero put the writing on the wall first-up at Muswellbrook on February 3, clearing out on his rivals to claim a dominant two-length maiden victory. The son of Dundeel couldn’t have been more impressive as Aaron Bullock pulled the persuader, with the lightly raced four-year-old careering away with the prize to justify the short price with horse racing bookmakers. Stepping out to the mile should give Zucchero more time to hit top gear, and provided Bullock can find cover from stall 10, watch for this guy to be storming over the top to secure back-to-back wins.
Best Bet
Race 4 – #4 Zucchero (10)
4yo Gelding | T: Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich | J: Aaron Bullock (61kg)
Next Best at Scone: Clubman
The Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained Clubman returns after a 304-day spell, and despite his lengthy absence, the son of Oasis Dream appears set to strike first-up. The four-year-old only had one start last preparation, producing a blistering turn-of-speed to claim maiden success at Canberra on April 19 before being sent to the paddock after suffering a setback. His barrier trials suggest he’s returning in good order, however, and with Alysha Collett likely to land in the ultimate stalking position from stall five, Clubman should get every chance to figure in this Class 1 contest.
Next Best
Race 3 – #2 Clubman (5)
4yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald | J: Alysha Collett (59kg)
Best Value at Scone: Point Basse
The for Point Basse in the penultimate is simply too big to ignore. The son of I Am Invincible returns after a 163-day spell and comes through some strong Highway company last preparation, closing to within four lengths of Melody Again at Randwick on September 7. Point Basse has never missed the frame at Scone, with three wins and another minor placing to his name, and with a recent gelding operation allowing for more potential improvement this time in, Point Basse must be considered a major player at the monster odds.
Best Value
Race 6 – #3 Point Basse (7)
5yo Gelding | T: Brett Cavanough | J: Mitchell Bell (57.5kg)
