What Rosehill Gardens Races
Where Rosehill Gardens Racecourse – James Ruse Dr, Rosehill NSW 2142
When Saturday, July 16, 2022
First Race 11am AEST

Metropolitan racing in New South Wales on Saturday heads to Rosehill Gardens, where a 10-race program will be conducted on a Heavy 9 track with the rail set true. HorseBetting’s NSW racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie selections for the day, which is scheduled to commence at 11:10am AEST.

Best Bet at Rosehill Gardens – Frumos

Four-year-old mare Frumos just oozes quality, so we are looking forward to seeing her take it to the next level on Saturday. The Chris Waller-trained galloper is unbeaten after two career starts, winning both races by a fair margin at Newcastle in June. By American stallion Kitten’s Joy, Frumos has been simply dominant over 1400m to start her career, and that is where Waller has left her for the time being. Her last-start victory was a painless watch for her backers, as she just idled up to her rivals in the straight and went past them under a tight hold, so we are expecting to see quite the turn of foot if push comes to shove. William Pike hops in the saddle, she has the minimum weight of 53.5kg and strikes not the strongest of fields, so we are anticipating her record will remain unbeaten.

Best Bet

Race 9 – Silks #13 Frumos (9)

Next Best at Rosehill Gardens – Alycone

We have got plenty of time for the James Cummings-trained Alcyone, and in recent months he has started to develop into a pretty handy conveyance. The four-year-old gelding has won three of his 12 career starts – all of which have been in Victoria – but he now joins the Godolphin team at Agnes Banks. The son of Teofilo has trialled twice in Sydney, finishing in the placings both times, so a strong first-up showing is expected. Hugh Bowman hops in the saddle having won aboard Alcyone two starts ago, while the conditions should suit a horse with two wins and three runner-up performances from seven wet-track runs. He might be too classy despite the big weight.

Next Best

Race 6 – Silks #1 Alycone (2)

4yo Gelding | T: James Cummings | J: Hugh Bowman (60.5kg)

Best Value at Rosehill Gardens – Philipsburg

The James Ponsonby-trained Philipsburg has done a lot of racing over the past few months, but he is deserving of a win on Saturday – and we are confident he can get the job done. The four-year-old son of Per Incanto ran on very well last weekend to finish third to La Chevalee and So United on a Heavy 9 at Randwick over 2000m, so we are happy to see him on the seven-day backup and down slightly in trip to 1800m on yet another wet track. He is likely to go back from barrier 11 under the top weight of 59.5kg, but he is rock-hard fit, they should be running on and he’s going well – all big ticks.

Best Value

Race 8 – Silks #1 Philipsburg (11)

4yo Gelding | T: James Ponsonby | J: Koby Jennings (59.5kg)

$8 with Ladbrokes
