Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive 10-race card at Eagle Farm this Saturday afternoon. Due to rain being forecast on Friday and Saturday, we don’t anticipate the track improving very much from the Soft 5 rating on Thursday. The rail will be in the +1m position for the entire circuit, with the action at Eagle Farm set to kick off at 12:13pm AEST.
Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Substantial
Peter & Paul Snowden are still seeking their first victory with Substantial in Australia after the ex-European import was sent over to them from William Haggas in March last year. This six-year-old gelding has been running in much better grades than what he will face on Saturday at Eagle Farm. His most recent effort in a Benchmark 100 over 1600m where he finished three lengths behind Grebini at Randwick, would be good enough to win this Class 6 Handicap. After drawing to do no work from barrier one and gaining the services of Ryan Maloney, Substantial should get his best chance to break through in Australia.

Next Best at Eagle Farm: Black On Beauty
Black On Beauty will return from a five-month spell with the benefit of a 1000m barrier trial under her belt for this fresh run. The Tony Gollan-trained mare has only had one preparation for Queensland’s leading trainer, where she won two of her four starts and only missed the placings on one occasion. This daughter of Zoustar will be one of two speed influences, and with the other being Jamaican Rumba, who is drawn outside of her, they should be able to cross the field from wide gates and take up the lead. Angela Jones partnered this mare in her two wins last preparation, so with her jumping back aboard, Black On Beauty will prove very hard to beat.

Best Value at Eagle Farm: Yangari
Robert Heathcote and Cejay Graham will combine with Yangari in the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1805m, where they will seek to return to the winners circle after this gelding has recorded three straight third-place finishes over 1600m. After having an eight-week freshen mid-preparation, this son of Spirit Of Boom should be at peak fitness on Saturday, and stepping up to 1800m looks like the ideal step now. With the aid of Graham’s 1.5kg claim, this guy will get into this race very light and will only have to carry 55.5kg. From barrier three, Graham will look to settle Yangari in the first five or six off the rail and get a nice cart into the race around the home corner.
Best Value
Race 5 – #13 Yangari (3)
