Best Bet at Eagle Farm: The Bopper
The Bopper returns from a 20-week spell with the benefit of three solid trials under his belt. The Kris Lees-trained gelding was impressive last campaign, as he quickly went through his grades before finishing his preparation with a close second-place finish behind Kallos in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap at Flemington on March 25. This son of Nicconi has a good fresh record (5:2-1-0) and loves the 1000m (7:4-1-0). From barrier 10, Andrew Mallyon will settle towards the rear of the field and look to run on. If The Bopper gets clear air with 300m to go, he should prove too classy for his rivals.

Next Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Ned’s Gully
The Paul Wallace-trained Ned’s Gully returned to races with an impressive win first-up at Doomben over 1110m on July 26. Even though he was hampered at the start and was held up on the home turn, this five-year-old gelding switched back to the inside and burst through a gap to get the job done. After finishing last preparation with two wins and a second-place finish, it appears as though this son of Bel Esprit is in for another big campaign. After he ran through the line so strongly last start, the step up in distance to 1200m looks ideal and the slight weight drop will only help.

Best Value at Eagle Farm: Gemelon Bolt
Gemelon Bolt will kick off his preparation in a Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1000m, with the benefit of one impressive trial over 1000m at Doomben on August 1. The five-year-old gelding enjoys racing at the Eagle Farm 1000m, recording three wins and a third from six attempts. This son of Falvelon has been given a lot of weight, but with the aid of Bailey Wheeler’s 3kg claim, he gets in well at the weights and should get the run of the race from barrier three. The top two runners in the market are stepping up in grade and will look to lead, so if they go too hard in front, Gemelon Bolt will get every chance to run over the top of them.
Best Value
Race 1 – #1 Gemelon Bolt (3)
5yo Gelding | T: Chris Anderson | J: Bailey Wheeler (a3) (62.5kg)
