When Saturday, March 4, 2023
First Race 12:03pm AEST

Racing returns to Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday afternoon, when the Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive nine-race program. The current track rating of a Good 4 is expected to stick, with some rain forecast on Friday along with warm weather to dry the surface for Saturday. The rail will go back into the +4m position for the entire circuit, after we raced in the +10m position a couple of weeks ago, which should see the rail play quite favourable early in the day. The first race will jump at 12:03pm AEST.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Mishani Royale

Our best bet of the day will be the Les Ross-trained Mishani Royale who will be returning to the races after an eight-week freshen since running in the Gold Pearl at the Gold Coast on January 7, where he won his second race in a row over Trifling and Excel D’or. This two-year-old filly hasn’t finished outside of the top two in her career, and she will be looking to make it a hattrick of wins on Saturday when she takes on her own age and sex in the QTIS Jewel Prelude 2YO Fillies Plate. Since defeating Trifling at her most recent start, that filly has gone on to record back-to-back wins as a favourite, which makes this girls form read much better, now that she returns against a field that is weaker than what she faced in the Gold Pearl. Ben Thompson will retain the ride on this daughter of Kobayashi after riding her to victory last start and if he can give her a confident front-running ride, we should see her bring up the hattrick in fine style.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silks#8 Mishani Royale (10)

Next Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Tilianam

The Tony Gollan-trained Tilianam finally broke through for a much deserved win at Doomben last start over 1350m on February 11, where she sat outside the leader and put a margin on her rivals with 300m to go, before cruising to the line to record one-length victory. Now that this four-year-old mare has broken through for her first win this preparation, she should be able to go on with it and on Saturday she strikes a race that isn’t much stronger than her last start. She looks to be the sole leader in the event, so with Angela Jones sticking and the aid of her 2kg claim, Jones will push forward from the wide barrier (14) and take up the lead, with the likes of Rock Amore and Red Wave gliding across the field with her. If this daughter of Savabeel can get an uncontested lead and settle for Jones, she will give them something to chase in the concluding stages of the 1400m event.

Race 9 – Silks#15 Tilianam (14)

4yo Mare | T: Tony Gollan | J: Angela Jones (a2) (55.5kg)

Best Value Bet at Eagle Farm: Mishani Missile

Our value play of the day will be the Kelly Purdy-trained Mishani Missile who has won his last two starts at the Sunshine Coast over 1800m, with his last start victory showing his toughness as he ground away and managed to beat a tough Early Thoughts by just over a neck on the line. This son of Show A Heart has brought up all three of his career wins this preparation whilst going through his grades nicely. Brody Loy will have his first ride on this gelding on Saturday, with James Orman not riding in Brisbane, so there will be a forced jockey change, but with Loy being another senior rider the change doesn’t worry us. From barrier one, Loy should be able to settle in the box seat behind the leaders and get the run of the race, before pulling out to make his run on the home turn and prove too strong in the concluding stages of the 1820m event.

Best Value

Race 3 – Silks#2 Mishani Missile (1)

3yo Gelding | T: Kelly Purdy | J: Brody Loy (58.5kg)
