Saturday racing returns to Ascot Racecourse this weekend for the first time in five months, when it will play host to a competitive nine-race card. Warm and dry weather is forecast for Friday and Saturday, so we expect to be racing on a Good 4 surface for the whole program. The rail will be in the True position, with the opening race set to jump at 12:36pm AWST.
Best Bet at Ascot: Ruler Rocket
Ruler Rocket finally broke through for a deserving win last start, where nothing went his way, but his class saw him run over the top of his rivals late to record a dominant victory over 1000m at Belmont. This four-year-old gelding has yet to miss the placings from eight career starts, and with the confidence of his recent victory, we expect that the Bruce Watkins-trained galloper will go on with it now. This son of Universal Ruler will have to carry 60kg, but from a nice draw, Ruler Rocket should be able to stalk the speed and play a prominent role in the finish.

Next Best at Ascot: Pompey
After running into a good one last start, the Grant & Alana Williams-trained Pompey brought up his fifth placing in his last six starts this preparation. This four-year-old gelding has been ultra-consistent this campaign, recording three wins and two runner-up finishes. Last start, this son of Xtravagant was just nosed out by the classy Aztec Ruler over 1400m at Belmont in Benchmark 72+ grade, and with him stepping up to RTG 78+ level, he will drop in weight to 55.5kg. From barrier four, William Pike can settle this guy in the box seat and give him an economical run before letting down with a powerful finish in the final 200m.
Next Best
Race 5 – #8 Pompey (4)
4yo Gelding | T: Grant & Alana Williams | J: William Pike (55.5kg)

Best Value at Ascot: Megami
The Takahide Ikenushi-trained Megami will step up to 1600m third-up this preparation, seeking to repeat the dose when she won at the same track and trip at this stage of her last campaign. This four-year-old mare was good without being impressive last start, when she ran home from the back of the field to finish fourth without threatening the leading duo. This daughter of Playing God will step up to a distance that she has won at three times from six attempts. At the current odds of +1600 with online bookmakers, we are more than happy to be with Megami, who should be at peak fitness and ready to win.
Best Value
Race 6 – #1 Megami (8)
4yo Mare | T: Takahide Ikenushi | J: Chris Parnham (59.5kg)
