Ascot Racecourse will host the Saturday Perth metropolitan meeting this weekend, with another very competitive nine-race program to be run and won. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with warm weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, we should be racing on a perfect surface. The rail will be in the +7m position for the entire circuit, with racing set to get underway at 12:28pm AWST.
Best Bet: Western Knight
Our best bet of the day will be the Adam Durrant-trained Western Knight who will be returning from a five-month spell after being given two nice trials over 950m and 1100m, where he was victorious on both occasions. This four-year-old gelding is a full-brother to Group 1 winner Western Empire and through five career starts, this gelding has a similar record to his brother, with two wins and two placings. This son of Iffraaj finished last preparation with a very nice win over 1650m at Belmont on September 24, where he got to the front early in the straight, and even though he didn’t have his mind on the job completely, he still won by a length on the line. William Pike will have his first ride on this gelding on Saturday after riding him at both of his trials this time in. Pike will know that this guy has raced quite green at most of his race starts to date, so expect an aggressive ride from Western Australia’s number one jockey and if he gets even luck, this well-bred gelding should be recording career win number three.

Next Best Bet: Tadweer
Another of our better bets on Saturday at Ascot will be the Chris & Michael Gangemi-trained Tadweer who will be looking to bring up a hattrick of wins when he takes on a RTG66+ Handicap over 1200m. This four-year-old gelding is racing in great form this preparation, recording two seconds before winning two in a row at his last four starts. This son of Written Tycoon was very good at his most recent outing when defeating Acromantula by one length after sitting behind the leaders and pulling out at the top of the home straight to prove too strong at the end of 1200m. Brandon Louis has ridden this gelding twice for a win and a second, with both of those rides coming in back-to-back starts. With the aid of Loius’ 2kg claim, he should be able to negate the wider barrier (five of six) and push forward to settle in the first three or four runners, like he has done at all bar one start this time in. With the likes of Man Crush, Sockoff and Metallon expected to set a hot tempo, it should set up perfectly for this guy to sit in behind the leaders and run over the top of them late.

Race 4 – #4 Tadweer (5)

Best Value: Blazing Tycoon
After just being nosed out Rocky Path last start over 1400m at this track last start, the William Lewthwaite-trained Blazing Tycoon will return to the same track and trip on Saturday looking for his first win since June last year. This seven-year-old gelding was very good at his most recent start, where he settled midfield before working his way to the outside with 300m to go. This son of Written Tycoon battled it out with the eventual winner in the final 150m and only just went down in a head bobber on the line. On Saturday this seasoned galloper will get the services of William Pike and if he can turn up to the races in a similar frame of mind and race like he did last start, we should see him be in the finish once again.

Race 6 – #4 Blazing Tycoon (6)
