Sassy Chouxs is ready to serve up a tasty morsel of what’s to come at Riccarton on Friday, according to North Canterbury trainer Karen Parsons.
Parsons and her training partner and husband John will produce the Jimmy Choux filly at the all-weather track meeting.
“She’s working really well though she is dropping back in distance and she’d be better at 1600m but it’s only a small field,” Parsons said.
“What she’s doing now is just the entree for the main course ahead. She’ll be a better horse with another six months on her and over more ground too.”
Bred and raced by Margaret Svennson, Sassy Chouxs claimed her second win from nine starts winning in Rating 65 company on the all-weather track a fortnight ago for rider Jasmine Fawcett, who retains the ride this week.
Sassy Chouxs will spearhead a team of five runners for the Parsons at Riccarton, with several good chances among the remainder: Watch Out, Koputaroa, Final Savings and Float.
Parsons has a high opinion of Highly Recommended four-year-old mare Watch Out, who makes her debut in a 1200m fillies and mares maiden after three trial wins last year, including one on the all-weather track.
“She’s one to watch but they’re all going well,” Parsons said.
On Sunday at Wingatui, the stable will produce Colossal, Hey Mickey and More Words, all three pleasing their trainers in the buildup to the meeting.
“More Than Words loves the wet and (Hey) Mickey always runs well with the light weight. Colossal’s going well too but we’re just hoping they don’t get too much rain for that track,” Parsons said.
