Country racing heads to the Sapphire Coast on Monday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program. We should be racing on a Good 4 surface for the meeting and with the rail out +5m between the 800m-370m marks, should be a fair track for all gallopers getting their chance. The first race is set to kick things off at 12:55pm AEST.
Best Best: Headstock
Headstock gets a terrific opportunity to chalk up his second career win and is clearly the progressive type in this field of 10. He’s coming off a strong second placing behind Manzoni at this course and distance finishing off to be less than a length off the winner. Alan also comes through the same race, and we concede is the main danger; however, with the drying conditions moving into Monday, we’re giving the advantage to Headstock. Josh Richards maintains the ride on this son of Headwater and with some luck from barrier eight should find himself right in the finish when powering to the line once again.

Next Best: Where Is Ken
Where Is Ken is another first-starter we’ve got time for and makes his debut in the third race on Monday afternoon. He’s only had one jump-out at Canberra on April 14 and did enough to suggest he can be more than competitive in this 1008m starting point. This son of Bull Point just cantered in behind his opposition to finish 8.2 lengths off Distillate and although the margin isn’t flattering, we think it was much better to the eye. He shouldn’t be far off the speed from barrier three and with stable jockey Quayde Krogh taking the reins on Monday, we think Where Is Ken can make his debut a winning one.

Best Value: Paziah
Paziah is a three-year-old filly making her debut for the Theresa Bateup yard and we think this daughter of Pariah can make a strong impression first-up. She’s only had the one barrier trial heading into this 1208m contest and although in the form guide it will read, she ran fifth of six runners, she was much more stylish than that. She sat on the inside of gallopers and was untested to the line under a stronghold by Jess Taylor. It’s tough to gauge her ability off just one jump-out; however, we’re convinced the team have a good opinion of her. It’s a small sample size but we’re happy to be with Paziah as one of the top bets of the day in the opener.
