Sandown is hosting the metropolitan meeting in Victoria on Saturday afternoon when a nine race card is set to be run and won on the Hillside circuit. The weather forecast is for a perfect summer’s day, and with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position throughout, we will see some top class racing. The first at Sandown is set to jump at 12:55pm AEDT on Saturday, January 23.
Best Bet: Race 4 #2 Mosh Music
Archie Alexander saddles up his six-year-old mare Mosh Music who was a touch disappointing at her last run at Flemington on January 9. She comes up against two runners who beat her home on that occasion, but the extra 400m will only benefit the chances of Mosh Music on Saturday afternoon. Her only start over the 2400m was back in March 2019, and she proved too strong for her rivals over the concluding stages. From barrier seven Jordan Childs will have plenty of time to make the decision whether he goes forward or not, and with speed drawn to her outside she should get a cart across and will just stay all day. Mosh Music is reaching peak fitness during this campaign and despite putting in below par performances thus far, she looks hard to beat on Saturday.
Next Best: Race 2 #6 Jimenez
Once referred to as a genuine wet tracker, the Douglas Arnold trained Jimenez put those qualms to bed when he was runner up to the impressive Zac De Boss at Caulfield on January 2. Jimenez is a galloper who tends to do his best racing up on speed and preferably outside the leader, which he maps to do here on Saturday. He has had one start at the 1300m in his career, where he was victorious at Geelong by four lengths back on November 23. If he can build on his last start effort at Caulfield, he will be hard to run down at a nice price for punters.
Best Value: Race 8 #11 Whittington Stone
Michael Moroney and Jake Noonan will combine in the third leg of the Sandown quaddie with Whittington Stone who is coming off successive runner up performances on the Lakeside track. On both occasions he led the field up and was pressured early on in the home straight but kept finding to go down by under half a length both times. Whittington Stone looks to be the clear leader in the penultimate race, and with a quiet time in front he will take some catching.
