Sandown Racecourse will play host to a very competitive eight-race card this Wednesday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 5; however, with no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect the track to get into the Good range by the time the first race jumps at 12:25pm AEST. The rail will be in the +13m position for the entire circuit, which should see the track play favourably to on-speed runners.
Best Bet at Sandown: Coriolis
The James Cummings-trained Coriolis made it two wins from her last three starts when she flew down the outside to run over the top of the rest of the field in the final 300m to record an easy 1.5-length victory at this track over 1200m on July 12. This daughter of Lohnro began this preparation as a maiden, but after breaking her maiden with a strong win at Newcastle first-up, she has gone to another level. Last time out, she recorded her first city win in her maiden attempt at the Victorian way of running. With a superior turn of foot, the step up from 1200m to 1400m should be no problem for this filly.

Next Best at Sandown: Rheinberg
It was hard to ignore Rheinberg’s win last start, as the Ben & JD Hayes-trained gelding sat wide on-speed before running away with an arrogant 4.25-length victory at Sale over 1400m on July 7 when first-up. This four-year-old was heavily backed into odds-on favouritism with most online bookmakers, and now he appears ready to make the step up in grade. This son of Swiss Ace finished third behind British Columbia and Unusual Culture at the end of his last preparation when competing at the Sandown 1400m, so the form is in his favour.

Best Value at Sandown: Castillian
The Patrick Payne-trained Castillian produced his best performance of this campaign last start at Flemington when running third, only beaten 1.25 lengths by Cause For Concern in the Super Vobis 3YO Handicap. Even though this son of Per Incanto never troubled the top two in the final 200m, he beat the rest easily after running on from the back of the field. Laura Lafferty’s 3kg claim gets the weight down to 56kg, and if she can get Castillian to jump well and settle better than midfield, he can play a prominent role in the finish.
