Sandown is set to host a nine-part card on the club’s Lakeside track on Wednesday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst brings you the best bets, quaddie numbers and odds comparison for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 3m for the entire circuit, while the first race is set to jump at 11:55am AEST.
Sandown Best Bet: Carrie
The Danny O’Brien-trained Carrie comes to Sandown on the back of a dominant all-the-way victory at Cranbourne on May 21 and looks perfectly placed to make it consecutive victories. On the back of a six-week freshen up between runs, the five-year-old Manhattan Cafe mare remains at the 2100m and will be hard to run down at that trip. Despite drawing wide in barrier 12, the plan for Ben Allen will be simple: jump cleanly away, look for the rail and dictate terms. Carrie rises 2kg in the weights off the three-length win at Cranbourne, but it looks like she will get her own way out in front.

Next Best at Sandown: Chief Altony
The Alexander Rae-trained Chief Altony was a good thing beaten last time out at Flemington on June 5 and drops back to BM70 grade on Wednesday in the final leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old son of Rebel Raider took his time to get going due to being held up for a run in the home straight at Flemington, before hitting the line hard to go down by less than a length when finishing fourth. He boasts a wet-track record of 4:1-3-0, so we know he will handle the going on Wednesday. From barrier two under Thomas Stockdale with his 2kg claim, we expect Chief Altony to settle midfield with cover before putting this field away in smart fashion. He steps up to 1600m fourth-up and looks to be a smart horse to follow throughout the winter and into the early stages of the spring.

Sandown Value Bet: Kermy
In the third leg of the quaddie, the Phillip Stokes-trained Kermy looks to gain all the favours in the run from barrier one. He has strung together consistent performances on the Pakenham synthetic in recent times, including two wins and a runner-up effort over his past three starts. The three-year-old gelding steps back to turf on Wednesday at Sandown, where he should be able to take a sit off the leaders’ heels and pounce on them in the concluding stages. If he can handle the going, Kermy should run a strong race on a track that has a tendency to favour on-pace gallopers.
