A bumper nine-part card is scheduled for the Lakeside track at Sandown on Sunday afternoon and horsebetting.com.au’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets, quaddie selections and odds from Australia’s leading bookmakers. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail returning to the true position for the meeting getting underway at 11:45am AEST.
Sandown Best Bet: Mr Brightside
We were with the Ben and JD Hayes-trained Mr Brightside when he broke his maiden at Geelong and that victory showed plenty of upside for this son of Bullbars. Having settled just off the leaders in that win on July 16, he managed to take over with 200m to go and kicked clear to win by five lengths in a win that showed he is worth following. Craig Williams retains the ride which is a bonus for his first run in town and from barrier eight, we anticipate Willow will look to settle just outside the leader’s girth. If he is afforded early luck and does not get trapped three wide, there is no reason why he cannot continue his winning ways here at Sandown.
Next Best at Sandown: Bronzba
Having its first start for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, the son of Complacent, Bronzba looks hard to beat in the third leg of the quaddie. His win on debut in New Zealand racing must be seen to be believed, where he missed the jump by three lengths, settled last and stormed home at a double figure price to suggest he may be a horse to follow on Australian debut. He gets Jamie Kah on board for his first start here and as long as he shows better manners from barrier one there is no reason he cannot feature in the finish here and remain unbeaten from two starts.
Sandown Value Bet: Elteecee
Ben and JD Hayes send Elteecee to Sandown following an impressive first two runs back from a spell and will be looking to make it two wins from three starts this campaign. First up, the son of Pierro was a smart winner when leading all-the-way, before a close second at Geelong has seen him enter this BM64 in strong enough form. From barrier, five under regular jockey Patrick Moloney, we anticipate the pair will lead this field and in a race bereft of early speed, he should get his own way out in front and ultimately prove too hard to run down over 1200m.
