Sandown’s Lakeside circuit is the destination for metropolitan racing on Wednesday afternoon with an eight-race card programmed. With consistent rain in the area of late, the track will be no better than the Soft 7 rating that arrived at the time of acceptances. The rail sticks to the true position, while racing gets underway at 12:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Sandown: Bors
Gavin Beddgood’s Bors relished the wet at Seymour two starts back, and again at Mornington on June 21. On the quick backup, in barrier four under Beau Mertens, he draws to gain every advantage in running. The gelded son of Fastnet Rock holds an imposing wet-track record (8: 3-1-3), including three wins and a second on Heavy ground. The more rain we get, the better for Bors, and we expect to see him hold a forward position, stalk the speed, and then finish too strongly for his rivals.

Next Best at Sandown: Ten Commandments
The Paul Preusker-trained Ten Commandments has strung together four straight wins and keeps lifting the bar at each start. This is his hardest test to date, but he has winning form on his side and a strong wet-track record (6: 4-1-0). Despite drawing barrier 17, Wiremu Pinn will take luck out of the equation and take up the running to best utilise his 2kg claim. As long as he does not get trapped wide up on speed, Ten Commandments should be good enough to bring up a fifth-straight win.

Race 7 – #8 Ten Commandments (17)

Best Value at Sandown: Seb Song
Jason Warren’s Seb Song has won only three times in 25 starts, but third-up from a spell, he looks poised to strike. The five-year-old has returned in fine form after six months off the track, with a narrow second first-up before finishing 1.5 lengths off Vitruvius over 1500m. He has won at 1600m third-up in the past, and if he brings a similar turn of foot to a BM70 affair like this, the race looks perfectly set up for a backmarker who relishes the wet to blouse the frontrunners.
Best Value
Race 2 – #14 Seb Song (11)
5yo Gelding | T: Jason Warren | J: Jason Maskiell (57kg)
