Sandown Racecourse will host another twilight meeting this Wednesday when it hosts a very competitive eight-race card. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with good weather forecast across Victoria on Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to be in the Good range come race day. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, which historically plays favourable to leaders.
The first race will jump at 3:40pm AEDT.
SANDOWN BEST BET: Abu Simbel
After breaking through to win her maiden last start at Werribee over 1400m on December 4, the Peter Moody-trained Abu Simbel looks to be a progressive mare who can go on with it at her next start. Last start this four-year-old mare race behind the leaders in the box seat and she was held up for most of the home straight before pushing through a gap and finishing strong, to overrun the leader in the final 50m. Now that this daughter of I Am Invincible has broken her maiden and steps up to Benchmark 64 grade, she will have to improve again third-up. However, with Jamie Kah taking the reins on Wednesday, she should get every chance. The Moody-Kah combination is a lethal combination who combine for many-a-winner in Victoria, so we are happy to be with them once again.

NEXT BEST AT SANDOWN: Pampuni
The first leg of the quaddie will feature a field of talented three-year-old fillies in a Benchmark 64 Handicap, with five of the 10 runners being last start winners. One of the last start winners is the Phillip Stokes-trained Pampuni, who won very nicely on the Sandown Hillside track on December 7 over 1300m. At her most recent start, this filly was very strong late over the final 100m, where she ran down the leader and pulled clear, indicating to us that she is looking for more distance, which is what she will get at 1400m this Wednesday. Daniel Moor will stick with this girl on Wednesday after riding her to victory last start, however, he will have to push her out of the barrier to hold the one-one position from barrier eight, as compared to barrier two last start. If Moor can push her out of the gates and hold a forward position in the first four, she should be very strong late.

SANDOWN VALUE BET: Hinto Blue
The last race of the day will see the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Hinto Blue compete in a Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1200m, coming off a very nice fifth at Pakenham on December 3 finishing 3.5 lenghts off Invincible Caviar, who has since come out and won again at Flemington. This six-year-old gelding hasn’t won in eight starts over a long preparation, but he has finished in the placings at four of those eight starts. On Wednesday this gelding will drop back in grade from a Benchmark 70 last start to a Benchmark 64, but with the aid of Matthew Cartwright’s 1.5kg claim, he will only rise one kilogram. If Cartwright can have this guy in the three wide running line or in the first three pairs in the running, he should be letting down strong in the concluding stages.
