What Sandown Hillside Races
Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171
When Wednesday, March 22, 2022
First Race 2:30pm AEDT

The Hillside track at Sandown is the venue for midweek racing in Victoria on Wednesday afternoon with a 2:30pm start scheduled. Anthony Freedman has two of the seven runners in race one, while in the quaddie legs, 50-year life members John Collins, Gerald Heaslip, Anthony Lloyd and Michael Scarcella will be honoured. Here are the best bets for the day, with odds courtesy of Sportsbet.com.au.

BEST BET: Belle Savoir

Nick Ryan is a trainer in great form and we are sticking with him here with his three-year-old filly Belle Savoir with Blake McDougall taking the ride. She’s had one start for one victory, albeit 377 days ago, and since then has had one jump out where she was fifth of seven at Flemington. She has obviously had her issues over the past 12 months, but we are counting on Ryan having her sound for a forward showing. In her maiden win, she had Craig Williams on board, and despite only getting there by a nose, she looked like she had plenty of ability after being backed into $2.80. Halfway through that event she settled fourth and we expect her to settle in a similar position in this event. Anthony Freedman’s Morean will be a danger after winning her maiden by a nose at Sale in February and then following that up with a third last time out at Pakenham.

NEXT BEST: Sense Of Honour

The Mick Price-Michael Kent Jnr combination combines with this mare who has won two from three. With Jamie Kah on board we don’t think the 61kg will be too much to worry about given her efforts in the Colac barrier trial a fortnight ago where she won and beat a couple of smart ones. Anything above even money may be overs with Dancelittlesister her strongest danger. Much like our best bet of the day, Sense Of Honour has had a lot of time on the sidelines (89 weeks) after her impressive victory at Flemington over 1200m on a Soft 7. A slight concern is the track being a Good 4, but she was fourth at her first start to the smart Crosshaven and was beaten less than length on that occasion.

BEST VALUE: Show Some Decorum

The Anthony Freedman-trained Show Some Decorum is hard fit now having his sixth start this time in, and after a handy second at Murray Bridge last start, we think he is value. He hasn’t won in his last four starts after winning first-up at Mooney Valley back on December 17, but he hasn’t been further than 2.1 lengths from the winner either. He raced at this track two starts back and was good in defeat, running fourth, only beaten half a length. With Damien Lane back on board, he will go close.
