Racing heads back to the Hillside circuit at Sandown for another eight-part card on a Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert will look to go 3/3 at the track once again. The surface is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 9m for the entire circuit, and in recent times when the rail has been out that far, winners have come from anywhere in the running. We kick off the day with a 1300m Maiden Plate at 3:05pm AEDT.
Sandown Best Bet – Heavenly Eagle
Our best bet comes up in the opener, where the Stephen Brown-trained Heavenly Eagle will be looking to go one better than his debut second over this track and distance. The three-year-old Echoes Of Heaven gelding absolutely charged home down the centre of the track that day and missed by the barest of margins. He was five lengths off the pace when entering the home straight, so the fact he made up plenty of ground shows he has enough ability to take out a race like this. If they run along over 1300m, then Heavenly Eagle will be the one having the last look at them. Under Group 1-winning jockey Ben Allen, Heavenly Eagle should prove hard to hold out.
Next Best at Sandown – Write The Score
In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained Write The Score will be looking to string together a third successive win and looks well placed to do just that. In a field where most of her rivals will look to get back and run on, this four-year-old Written Tycoon mare looks set to gain an uncontested lead. Patrick Moloney sticks onboard having partnered with Write The Score at her previous two starts, and from barrier five the pair should have no issue in finding the front and dictating terms throughout.
Best Value at Sandown – Lion’s Share
The Steve Pateman-trained Lion’s Share is set to return from a two-month spell and looks well over the odds in the second leg of the quaddie. The five-year-old Animal Kingdom mare only has one minor placing from four first-up runs, but she clearly has enough staying ability to take out a BM64 like this. Having gone around at Listed company in her last two starts in the summer, she may have similar targets this time in. She will be giving her rivals a start from the rear of the field, but as she is armed with a sharp turn of foot, she looks a nice each-way play at double digits with Sportsbet.
