Wednesday metropolitan racing will once again return to Sandown, with this week’s eight-race program being held on the Hillside track. The current track rating of a Good 4 is expected to be what we see come Wednesday afternoon. The rail will be out in the +12m position for the entire circuit, but considering Sandown has a long straight we don’t expect it to play overly favourable to leaders. The first race at Sandown Hillside will jump at 3:40pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Sandown: Pacific Ruby
Our best bet of the day at Sandown will be the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Pacific Ruby, who will be returning from a six-month spell with the benefit of two jump-outs at Cranbourne over 800m. This four-year-old mare finished her three-year-old campaign with two wins in succession at Moe and Sandown when favourite, before going out for a break. This daughter of Kermadec has only won on heavy tracks throughout her career, but the way she recorded those wins is the reason that we have her as our best on Wednesday. She won both of her races by 2.75 lengths, where she was eased down in the final 50m after putting the rest of the field away quickly in the home straight. Also, Jye McNeil and Jamie Kah hardly touched the mare and rode her hands-and-heels at both of those wins. Jamie Kah will jump back aboard this girl on Wednesday for her first-up run over 1300m, where she will be looking to complete a hattrick of wins.

Next Best at Sandown: Benedetta
In the next race we will be siding with the Jason Warren-trained Benedetta who won very easily last start at Cranbourne over 1200m as an odds-on favourite. This three-year-old filly ran away from the field on the home turn after sitting three-wide with cover for the entire 1200m journey, recording a 3.5 length victory over Queen Of Tuscany, who she will meet again on Wednesday. This daughter of Hellbent has shown a blistering turn of foot at her two-career race starts, which will hold her in good stead for her next start at Sandown as she will most likely settle at the back of the field after jumping from barrier eight. She will also rise 2kg in the weights after breaking her maiden last start, however, she rises to Benchmark 64 grade, in a race that lacks consistent winners. Daniel Stackhouse will stick after winning on this filly at Cranbourne and if he can get her into clear air at the 300m mark, she should prove too strong late with that booming turn of foot.

Best Value at Sandown: Three Graces
Our value play of the day at Sandown comes through the same race as our next best bet, with the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Three Graces running a nice fourth behind Benedetta last start at Cranbourne. Even though the winner won by a considerable margin, this filly was quite unlucky in the home straight where she had to pick her way through the field on the inside to get into clear running room. When she eventually got into clear air, this daughter of Sebring let down with a good burst of acceleration to finish fourth. Now that this girl steps up to 1400m, draws a nice barrier (3) and drops to 56kg, we should see a vast improvement from her third-up on Wednesday.
