With Caulfield out of action due to ongoing renovations, metropolitan racing in Victoria heads to the Hillside track at Sandown on Saturday afternoon for a nine-race program. With perfect conditions forecast for racing on the weekend, we expect to start on a Good 4 with an early upgrade to a Good 3, while the rail returns to the true position after being out 11m for the midweek meeting on Wednesday. Action commences out of Sandown at 12:35pm AEDT.
SANDOWN BEST BET: Detonator Jack
We need to wait until the halfway point in the card for our best bet, when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained steps out over the mile. The four-year-old gelding looked to have his last start shot to pieces at Ballarat, before Green Fly flew down the outside on the superior ground to nab him inside the final 50m. He meets his rival once again on Saturday, but only gives away 2.5kg rather than 3.5kg and is set to meet him on a firmer surface which is right up Detonator Jack’s alley. From barrier eight, look for Harry Coffey to have the son of Jakkalberry settled midfield with cover and armed with an explosive turn of foot, we expect Detonator Jack to bring up a fifth win from just his seventh start.

NEXT BEST AT SANDOWN: Life Lessons
Life Lessons from the Peter Moody barn has returned in fine fiddle this campaign and we expect she will bring up a third straight win from as many starts this time in. The four-year-old mare was an impressive winner on the Lakeside track on November 23 over 1400m and despite staying at the trip looks a class above her rivals. She meets So You See once again, but from the low draw of barrier two under Daniel Stackhouse draws to do no work. She looks like a 1400m-1600m horse, whilst her main market rival wants much further than 1400m by the looks of it. With even luck in the home straight, Life Lessons is a mare in form and one worth following at the $4.50 quote with online bookmakers.

SANDOWN VALUE BET: Ain’tnodeeldun
The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Ain’tnodeeldun is approaching full fitness being third-up from a spell and coming back to onto drier ground should see him feature in the finish here. The five-year-old gelding is having just his seventh start from a long injury layoff and as he gets out further in distance, the more prominent he will be. He draws to gain a perfect run in transit under Matt Cartwright and with the wide surrounds of the Sandown straight, we expect to see Ain’tnodeeldun build through his gear and ultimately be the one finishing the hardest. The $10 on offer with online betting sites looks simply the wrong price based on class.
