Sandown GRC’s Melbourne Cup Community Sweep

Sandown Greyhound Racing Club has a proud tradition of supporting sporting clubs and community groups not only in our local area, but all over Victoria.

It has been an extremely difficult time for all clubs, big and small, and with this in mind we have once again decided to run our popular Community Sweep on our biggest race of the year, “The World’s Greatest Greyhound Race”- the TAB Melbourne Cup.

Sandown GRC CEO Adrian Scott said the Melbourne Cup sweep has created huge interest in the broader community.

“Part of what we do at Sandown is supporting the community and our Melbourne Cup community sweep is something we want to grow and expand every year,” Mr Scott said.

To be part of the sweep was a simple process, with any incorporated sporting or community group based in Victoria eligible to enter to be randomly allocated a greyhound in last Friday’s TAB Melbourne Cup heats and go into the running to share in the $13,000 prize pool. And the best part, entry was free.

The sweep is a fun and exciting way for clubs and community groups to have the opportunity to win much needed funds that allow them to continue doing important work in their local community.

With a first prize of $6000 up for grabs, all the 64 available sweep places were filled within a week and after the heats were run and won last Friday night, we have pleasure in announcing and congratulating our 8 finalists and the greyhound they have drawn in the Cup.
