The Lakeside track at Sandown Racecourse plays host to a competitive seven-race card for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting in Victoria. With plenty of rain in the area in the lead up to race day, the track is expected to be on the worse side of a Soft 6, while the rail comes out to the 6m mark for the entire track. We kick off the day of racing at 1pm AEST.
SANDOWN BEST BET: Adelabelle
There is little hiding the fact that we rate the Maddie Raymond-trained Adelabelle, and despite being five weeks between runs, she looks a clear best bet of the day. The six-year-old mare put nine lengths on her rivals in a Warrnambool maiden on July 18 in Heavy 10 conditions, so we are happy to know she will handle the expected conditions at Sandown. With the likes of Elveena and Spirit Of Gold known to be frontrunners, this 2100m event for fillies and mares looks perfectly set up for a backmarker like Adelabelle to work through her gears approaching the home turn. If Damian Lane can have her doing just that, we should see this girl’s ability shine through. At $6.50 with some online betting sites, she looks to be a perfect bank-builder.

NEXT BEST AT SANDOWN: Sabre Princess
The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Sabre Princess brought up a deserved win at Geelong on August 3, and we anticipate she will build on that effort when she comes to town on Wednesday. The five-year-old mare put in a visually dominant performance when settling towards the rear of the field and absolutely flying home to get the job done in rather soft fashion in the end. With plenty of her rivals wanting to take up the running in this BM64 over the mile, the race looks perfectly set-up for this daughter of Sebring. Armed with arguably the best turn of foot in the race, if Patrick Moloney can have her within striking distance, look for Sabre Princess to be savaging the line and ultimately proving too hard to hold out.

SANDOWN VALUE BET: Swift Hit
With race fitness on his side and some decent form as well, we are hoping the Peter Smith-trained Swift Hit can bring his wet-track form to town when he steps out over 1400m in the second event of the day. The seven-year-old gelding has not finished worse than fifth this campaign, and considering he has a win and four minor placings to his name in that time, he cannot be ignored – despite the big price on offer with online bookmakers. The Swift Alliance appreciated a genuinely run 1300m race at Bendigo on August 14 where he got the bob in on the line on a Heavy 8. With similar conditions and a genuinely run 1400m event expected, the race looks perfectly set-up to be a carbon copy of his last-start win, and this time we get a massive price to find out.
