Sale Racecourse is the destination for one of two meetings in Victoria on Sunday afternoon, with a competitive eight-race program kicking off at 1pm AEST. Despite the track coming up a Soft 7 when acceptances dropped, we should be racing on at least a Soft 5 with some unseasonal warm weather being forecast. The rail comes out 3m the entire circuit.
Best Bet at Sale: Hazel Baby
The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Hazel Baby has been building towards her maiden victory and gets her chance to put her hoof in the till on Sunday. The three-year-old filly chased home Crystalaa first-up before running into Starianne at Ballarat last time. The latter of those two horses has since gone on to run well in metro grade at Sandown during the week. From barrier two, we expect Patrick Moloney will take luck out of the equation and have the Toronado filly doing as she pleases out in front. Under a well-rated steer, Hazel Baby should prove too good for this lot and get her maiden out of the way at start four.

Next Best at Sale: Anahita
Hopefully, we can bow out in style on Sunday when the Matt Laurie-trained Anahita returns from a 30-week spell over the 1105m. This is without a doubt her easiest task since her maiden victory on debut in August last year, with the Shalaa filly competing in Listed races at her last three starts. Her only other start came in a BM64 where she split subsequent Stakes performers Waltz On By and Bank Maur over 1300m. The 1105m should be no issue as it’s the trip she broke her maiden at, and with Stateswoman set to make this a genuinely run affair, look for Zac Spain to have Anahita parked off the speed and hitting the line strongly late on.

Best Value at Sale: Captain Kenny
Despite not being able to the hit the frame in each of his five career starts, we are willing to give the Gavin Bedggood-trained Captain Kenny a chance on Sunday. The four-year-old gelding arguably produced a career-best effort at Pakenham on April 6 when finishing just over two lengths off Rotokura in arguably a tougher maiden. Having drawn the carpark in the field of 11, look for Arron Lynch to have this bloke lobbed into the one-one with an ounce of luck. This is hardly the deepest maiden, and with even luck in landing a spot with cover, we’re happy to side with Captain Kenny at a big price with online betting sites.
