Sale Racecourse is the place we will be looking to build on our wins from Flemington on Saturday, with an eight-race card scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 3 at the time of writing, but with rain forecast in the lead up to race day, we anticipate we will be racing on a Soft 5 or worse. The rail returns to the true position, meaning it may prove advantageous to be close to the speed, while racing commences at 1:20pm AEDT.
Sale Best Bet – Titan Of Choice
Our best of the day comes up in the final race, where the Peter Gelagotis-trained Titan of Choice will step out over 1400m looking to continue his good form . Having not missed the top three in four runs to begin this campaign, the three-year-old Extreme Choice gelding will be aiming to add a second win this time in. Two starts back he chased home Pascero, who goes around in Saturday’s Australian Guineas, and wasn’t far off subsequent Sandown winner Pounding in the same race when finishing third. From barrier eight, we expect to see Vlad Duric to have him positioned nicely midfield with cover, and with even luck in the home straight he should put this field away with relative ease. The $5.50 on offer from Ladbrokes is far too generous.
Next Best at Sale – Genuinely
The John McArdle-trained Genuinely comes back to a country BM64 having been a touch outclassed at Group 3 level in The Vanity at Flemington on February 19. He only managed to beat one runner home that day, although he wasn’t beaten all that far in the end. Prior to that, he beat home subsequent Ballarat maiden winner Jester, who looks to have above-average ability, and that appears to be the right form-line to follow. From barrier nine, Jamie Mott will look to have the Tivaci filly settled in the second half of the field. Armed with a nice turn of foot, Genuinely should have too much under her bonnet for her rivals in this.
Sale Value Bet – I’m Cheeky
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are hoping the William Wood-trained I’m Cheeky can bring up a hat-trick of wins at the track. Having won over 1106m two starts back on a Heavy 10, the Squamosa gelding backed it up with another all-the-way win over 1010m. He steps back up to the 1100m on Sunday, and we expect Jason Benbow will use barrier one to the bay gelding’s advantage and try to make this a genuinely run affair once again. With Benbow notching three wins aboard I’m Cheeky, we are confident the pair can bring up a fourth together on Sunday.
