Sunday afternoon racing in Victoria heads to Sale Racecourse, where eight races are set to be run on a Good 4 track with the rail out 5m for the entire circuit. HorseBetting’s James Herbert has combed through the card and found a couple of best bets for the meeting, which commences at 12:50pm AEST, with odds provided by the best online betting sites.
BEST BET AT SALE: IS THIS LOVE
Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie, where the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Is This Love looks well placed to breakthrough for a deserving maiden win. Having finished second in all three of her career starts, she is genuinely knocking down the door for a win and from barrier three should gain every favour in the running. The three-year-old filly arguably should have won at Bendigo on March 11 considering she was held up for a run at a crucial time and only went down by a neck on the line to Hayley, with Starlea the runner in third subsequently coming out and breaking their maiden at their next start. With speed drawn out wide, we expect Ethan Brown to track the speed throughout from the low draw and with better luck this time around, Is This Love looks a clear best bet of the day.
NEXT BEST AT SALE: FORBES
For many this could be a last chance saloon for the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Forbes, but he looks perfectly placed to bring up a long overdue win. Since running within a nostril to champion colt Anamoe on debut in the Merson Cooper Stakes in November 2020, the Capitalist colt has simply not gotten anywhere near that type of level again. He’s been rolled as a $1.85, $2.90 and $3.60 chance in his career and if he doesn’t win this on Sunday he may never start as low as $5 again. Having won a Balnarring jump out in the lead up to this, he looks to have returned in good order and despite the short quote of $2.25 being on offer from Ladbrokes, he is clearly the best horse in the race and Sunday should be his day.
BEST VALUE AT SALE: CAPINO
Shane Stockdale and Michael Poy combine with three-year-old gelding Capino in the penultimate race of the day, where we think he can build on his last start second at the Sale 1623m. The drop back to the 1419m should not hinder his winning chances as he seemingly peaked on his run inside the final 100m despite finishing three quarters of a length off the eventual winner. He won two starts back at the track and distance when breaking his maiden, where he managed to settle outside the leader and kick clear in the straight. We expect the plan to be something similar on Sunday having drawn out wide in barrier 10. With speed drawn underneath him, he will need some luck early, but if he is able to cross the field, then the $12 with online bookmakers looks a treat.
