History will be made on Friday afternoon when the Sale Turf Club hosts Victoria’s first Good Friday racing meet. The $500,000 Country Discovery (1100m) is the feature event, and with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the position, we’re set for a perfect day of racing. The first of eight races is scheduled to go at 1pm AEST.
Country Discovery Top Tip – The Inferno
Good Friday racing is based around the inaugural running of The Country Discovery worth $500,000, which has attracted a star-studded field including six previous Group winners. We have landed on the Cliff Brown-trained The Inferno who comes to Sale on the back of a seven-week layoff following a disastrous first-up run in the Lightning Stakes. Having clipped Profiteer’s heels 200m into the race and almost falling, he was never going to feature in the finish, but his genuine class should set him up perfectly in a race like this. Despite drawing barrier nine, he was always going to get back upon settling, and with a genuine tempo expected over the 1100m sprint, we expect to see The Inferno thundering home late. He has four wins from four second-up runs and with $8 on offer from online bookmakers, The Inferno looks a great bet in The Country Discovery.

Best Bet at Sale – So You See
Patience will be the key on Good Friday as our best bet of the day at Sale comes up in the final race of the day. Having smashed her rivals on debut, the Mike Moroney-trained So You See has since been competitive in the Kewney Stakes and then Alexandra Stakes last time out. The So You Think filly endured a wide run at The Valley on March 25, when beaten 3.45 lengths to Daisies, Bon’s A Pearla and Douceur. That type of form line stands out like a sore thumb in a race like this and considering she was a length off Barb Raider and Argentia the start prior, she looks a clear best bet of the day. Look for Jamie Mott to have the filly settled in the second half of the field and when asked to quicken, we expect So You See to put this field away with relative ease.

Next Best at Sale – Thought Provoking
We will be hoping it is a successful day for the Price & Kent yard as they saddle up Thought Provoking in a BM64 over 2200m. With two wins and two second place finishes in her four starts this campaign, the So You Think mare is low flying and if she replicates her form so far this campaign on Friday, she is the one to beat. From barrier nine, expect to see Jordan Childs to have the brown mare in the one-one so she can stalk the speed throughout and present a sharp sprint she is capable of when necessary. The 2200m looks perfect for the mare and as long as she stays out of trouble, Thought Provoking looks to be one of the better bets of the day.

Best Value at Sale – Ancient Egypt
It is not very often that Peter Moody & Jamie Kah combine, but when they do, it certainly gains our attention. They’ll team up with last start Pakenham maiden winner Ancient Egypt who looks like a stayer on the rise. Having settled well back at Pakenham on March 31, he built through the gears nicely and went on to put 1.5 lengths on his closest rivals in a result that suggested he has above average ability. The American Pharoah gelding looks set to settle at the rear of the field and despite needing the race to be run to his liking, we’re more than happy to take the $9.50 on offer from Neds.
