Melbourne’s weather gods might have a strong hand to play if winning machine Rhapsody Chic (NZ) (Sacred Falls) is to extend his winning run to five straight at Caulfield on Saturday.
Anthony and Sam Freedman’s galloper has won his past four starts and another victory would put him in select company.
“I think Steel Prince might have been the last horse we’ve won five in a row with, it’s never easy,” Sam Freedman recalled.
“The funny thing is he is a horse who requires luck too, because he is not great out of the gates.”
Jamie Kah will get her first sit aboard the son of Sacred Falls, who is undefeated in all four runs back this campaign, banking $196,350 along the way, with all his wins coming on Soft or Heavy ground.
Kah will be the horse’s fifth jockey this preparation.
Caulfield is currently rated a Good 4 but could receive as much as 14mm of rainfall across the weekend.
“That’s probably why we are there as we are hopeful of getting some rain Friday and hopefully a little bit more Saturday, which would bring him right into calculations,” Freedman admitted.
“Obviously he has been most effective on ground with give but I wouldn’t rule out he isn’t going to be effective on top of the ground in time.
“We are obviously playing to his strengths for now.”
Another successful New Zealand purchase from Roll the Dice Racing joining the likes of Ayrton (NZ) (Iffraaj), Globe (NZ) (Charm Spirit) and Otago (NZ) (Ocean Park), Rhapsody Chic won his first and only start in New Zealand on Heavy 10 ground for his previous owners.
A winner of five of his nine starts overall, the five-year-old has never missed a place, with Saturday’s $2.60 chance with Sportsbet on trial at 1600 metres for the first time.
Despite the end of winter nearing, Freedman said the horse won’t necessarily be sent to the paddock, however.
“It is his first time at the mile, but he has earned his chance at this trip so it’s a good chance to see if he wants 1400 metres or a mile,” he said.
“I’m not sure if he’ll have a break or not after this, he looks terrific and is not giving us any signs at home he has had enough.”
