It is Rowley Mile Day at Hawkesbury on Thursday, with the $185,000 Listed event headlining a competitive eight-race card. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents you with his best bet in the feature, as well as his best bets throughout the remainder of the afternoon and quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 12:40pm AEST.
Rowley Mile Best Bet – Cross Talk
It is pretty difficult to go against a horse like Cross Talk who comes off a two-length Listed win over 1500m last start. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained five-year-old has gone from strength-to-strength this preparation, losing only one race and winning the other three dominantly. The son of Keano does have to take his wet-track form to a dry Hawkesbury on Thursday, but this is a much weaker field than what he faced on July 30 in the Winter Challenge. He will lead from barrier nine with Tim Clark on his back, and although he rises 4.5kg, we expect him to still be too strong in what is a weak edition of the Rowley.

Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Magic
If Magic doesn’t win a Hawkesbury maiden, you’d have to think that the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas is out of reach. The colt out of superstar mare Rising Romance has been good in three career starts, placing at Group level twice and then finishing well back in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes. Trained by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes, this three-year-old by Snitzel has a real boom on him, so connections will be hoping that their $2.5 million purchase can get the job done here in maiden grade. William Pike will have a job ahead of him from barrier 15, but with the Winkers going on first time, we are tipping the horse will switch off nicely and then accelerate too quickly for his rivals. Magic has the clear class edge.

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Peace Officer
Clarry Conners’ colt Peace Officer could explode first-up on Thursday. The three-year-old by Iffraaj should simply have won on debut in the Pierro Plate (1100m), but he did not get a shot at them until the 200m when the race was all but over. He didn’t handle the Heavy track which he was dealt in his next three starts, finishing midfield in the Skyline Stakes, Pago Pago Stakes and Bailleu Stakes – all at Group level. Conners has given this horse two nice trials and Nash Rawiller has been aboard both times, so seeing him stick with him on race day is a big push too. Dry track, 1300m and right back in grade are three things that are right in Peace Officer’s favour.
