Rosehill Gardens is the place to be on Saturday afternoon with a blockbuster 10-race program highlighted by the 2022 Festival Stakes (1500m) worth $200,000. The quality racing doesn’t stop there, however, with the Starlight Stakes for the sprinters and the Elite Sand And Soil Cup for the stayers also featured. The rail sits back in the true position for the entire circuit, and with minimal rain expected across the region it’s likely we’re going to be racing on the currently listed Good 4 surface. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 12:20pm AEDT.
Festival Stakes: Sunshine Rising
Formerly known as Rise High, Sunshine Rising will make his Australian debut on Saturday in the featured Festival Stakes over 1500m. This lightly raced nine-year-old out of the Mark Newnham yard brings impeccable form-lines from Hong Kong, with performances behind arguably the world’s best miler, Golden Sixty, in the 2021 Stewards Cup (2.5 lengths) and a win in the Group 2 Sha Tin Trophy by a half-length. He has beaten Beauty Generation — who, at the time, was considered the best Hong Kong had to offer before Golden Sixty made name. Although this son of Mycharlieboy is now into his nine-year-old campaign, he has had only the 22 career starts and looks a great bet after two outstanding barrier trials being hard held going to the line under Jockey Tom Sherry, who takes the reins on Saturday. You’re almost getting an each-way price for a horse that, in our opinion, clearly has the best form heading into this race. If his trials are anything to go by, Sunshine Rising is going to be more than competitive in his Australian debut.

Rosehill Best Bet: Colour Sergeant
The second race of the day holds our best bet of the afternoon as James McDonald combines with Mathew Smith and Colour Sergeant. He comes here on the week backup after a huge effort last weekend at Kembla Grange, where he was beaten just 1.7 lengths after making up a stack of ground from the back of the field in a race that was all about the on-speed runners. Colour Sergeant was the only horse powering to the line on that occasion, so stepping back in grade to BM72 grade looks ideal, and despite giving this field a significant weight advantage, even the 59.5kg isn’t going to be an issue against what looks only moderate opposition on paper. McDonald hops aboard here for a reason, and that’s because this gelding by Kingman has some quality. He’ll only need to replicate his effort from last weekend to be in the money, and with luck from barrier-eight he should be winning.

Next Best at Rosehill: Point Counterpoint
In the Country Classic, Point Counterpoint will be looking to turn the tables on race rival Dream Runner from The Little Dance on November 1. He was beaten by 1.1 lengths but had plenty of excuses as he clipped heals before powering to the line late to just miss the frame. The run was huge, and for a horse that hasn’t been to the 2000m for some time, this looks like a great opportunity for the Stirling Osland-trained gelding to step up in trip and get a nice $150,000 feature to boot. Reece Jones rides again here and gets a 1.5kg claim, so that should come in handy as he’ll look to come across and find the one-by-one before unleashing down the middle of the track. We are getting a great price with online bookmakers.

Rosehill Value Bet: Worthily
Second-up for the Maher & Eustace team, Worthily looks over the odds in the fourth race against short-priced favourite Floating. We understand the raving about Floating’s win last start, but this looks much tougher, while Worthily comes here on the back of a strong performance at Flemington on November 5 at BM90 level when beaten a half-length. He put in a courageous effort on that occasion, sitting wide the entire trip and sticking on to the task to only find two horses better. The team seems to have travelled up to Sydney from Melbourne due to weather, and with a Good 4 likely for Saturday afternoon, the setup looks perfect for this gelding by Point Of Entry to get another win on the board. Brenton Avdulla takes the ride, and with an even run in transit, Worthily looks one of the better each-way bets at Rosehill.
