HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the 10-race program at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, including a selection in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m). The track is, unsurprisingly, rated a Heavy 8 at the time of writing, while the rail is out 3m for the entire course. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 11am AEST.
Winter Cup Best Bet – Irish Sequel
With no disrespect to any of the horses in this field, this might be the worst Listed race we have ever seen. Eight horses will be fighting it out, with the odds-on favourite having earnt not even $100,000 in prizemoney, while the lowest-rated horse in the race, Le May, has a lower rating than the worst horse in both the Midway Handicap and the Highway Handicap. It’s almost a mockery of black-type racing. For the sake of a tip, Chris Waller and Jay Ford combine with Irish Sequel, who was a Randwick winner three starts ago when defeating subsequent Wagga Cup winner Aleas over 1800m on a Heavy 10 track. The son of Invincible Spirit has been racing in Listed company all preparation, so he deserves a win in this grade more than anyone else in the field.

Best Bet at Rosehill Gardens – Wicklow
We wouldn’t be shocked if we are talking about Wicklow on a large scale in the spring, with the Chris Waller import showing glimpses of Group potential in his first racing preparation on Australian soil. The four-year-old gelding won his first three starts in Australia, defeating Crystal Pegasus – a two-time Listed winner this campaign – by 1.6 lengths in June. Wicklow ran third at his next start as favourite, and he wasn’t seen again until a recent trial in May, where he was given a quiet time of it under James McDonald. Drawn the inside alley, Jason Collett will have him midfield with cover, and given the heavy conditions, we are confident that the runs will come in the straight.

Next Best at Rosehill Gardens – Lady Of Luxury
Bjorn Baker and young gun apprentice Dylan Gibbons combine in the sixth with classy mare Lady Of Luxury. After going 10 starts without a win, the daughter of Criterion finally put it all together in August last year to break her maiden at Hawkesbury, before winning four of her next eight starts. After winning a very competitive Fillies & Mares Class 4 on the Gold Coast, Baker sent her around the following week in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares, where she started $7.50 and was beaten less than five lengths by Snapdancer, who won the Robert Sangster Stakes last month. She resumed with a fast-finishing third at this track a fortnight ago over 1200m, so the extra furlong should be appreciated. Gibbons sticks with her, so his 3kg claim will see her in with 59kg, making her extremely competitive in this.

Best Value at Rosehill Gardens – Mum’s The Boss
Three-year-old filly Mum’s The Boss brings the right form to be competitive in this 3YO Benchmark 72 on Saturday, with her form lines tying right into the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m). On debut, the Foxwedge filly was beaten by Smirk in a Newcastle maiden, while two starts ago she contested the Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m), and last start she was beaten by Aravene, who is close to favourite in the Oaks at Eagle Farm on Saturday. She comes back in trip to 1800m, which should suit, while Rachel King is riding well of late, with five winners from her past 30 rides.
