Racing heads to Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday afternoon for a very competitive 10-race program. There’s plenty of quality racing on offer, including the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes for the two-year-old colts and the Group 3 Widden Stakes for the two-year-old fillies. As gallopers return for a likely future tilt at the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and Group 1 Golden Slipper. We’ve also got the Expressway Stakes at Group 2 level for the older horses over the 1200m sprint.
The track is currently listed as Soft 6 for Saturday with some scattered showers throughout the week, so that looks the most likely scenario for race-day. The rail has moved out +5m the entire circuit for the meeting and we’ll be looking for a fair surface with tempo being the main factor bring backmarkers into play late in the day. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 12:20pm AEDT.
Canonbury Stakes Top Tip: King’s Gambit
King’s Gambit looks to be absolutely flying heading into this first-up assignment and despite the short quote with online bookmakers, we’re with him in the Canonbury Stakes. His initial win as a two-year-old in the Debutant Stakes on October 8 was sublime, smashing his rivals by five-lengths going away from his opposition. Since that dominant win he’s been put away for a 112-day spell and returns on the back of a soft trial win at Randwick on January 9, where this son of I Am Invincible travelled in sensational fashion to the line. He’s given every indication he’s well enough to produce first-up and the Peter & Paul Snowden camp is one you can trust with their two-year-old crop. King’s Gambit is short on Saturday; however, if you’re not willing to bet at the price, it might be worth an investment in a futures market for the Blue Diamond Stakes or Golden Slipper, where he’s currently a $4 and $5 chance respectively. James McDonald takes the reins on Saturday and will look to sit in behind likely leader, Red Resistance, before powering past his rivals again.

Widden Stakes Top Tip: Perfect Proposal
The two-year-old fillies race looks a lot tougher on paper; however, we’ve sided with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly, Perfect Proposal. Her debut before going to the paddock was a strong front-running effort behind stablemate Platinum Jubilee on October 1 in the Gimcrack Stakes at Group 3 level. She was only beaten 1.3 lengths on that occasion and looks to have returned from her 119-day spell in good order with two barrier trials, trading blows with race favourite Learning To Fly. In both barrier trials Perfect Proposal led them up and found well late, which is the exact pattern we expect to see out of this daughter of Russian Revolution on Saturday. Tim Clark has been with this filly since her debut and from the nice draw of barrier four, he shouldn’t have any issues getting across to the rail to lead, before kicking clear as she did in her debut, this time to victory.

Expressway Stakes Top Tip: Golden Mile
The Expressway Stakes sees the return of star three-year-old colt, Golden Mile, and we think he’s one of the better bets on the Rosehill program. He featured in the springs best feature events; including taking out the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on October 8 over the 1600m. He was consistent throughout the entire preparation as well, with an impressive fourth in the Golden Rose prior to that behind Jacquinot and evening going back to his first-up second placing behind Kibou in the Up and Coming. He now returns after a short 98-day spell and should be figuring here on what we’ve seen at the barrier trials as well, running into a soft third behind Nominator at Randwick. James McDonald takes the reins here for James Cummings and from barrier four should be sitting somewhere in the top half of the field, stalking likely-leader Forbidden Love, throughout the 1200m contest. Other horses may have the fitness edge; however the class of Golden Mile should offset that.

Best Bet at Rosehill: Spacewalk
The first leg of the quaddie is where you’ll be finding our best bet of the afternoon at Rosehill, as Spacewalk should be figuring in this BM88 contest. His first-up effort was referenced in our latest edition of the Follow Files and as discussed there, Spacewalk was one of the forgive performance of the afternoon on January 14 behind Mariamia. He got back and somehow didn’t find clear running in the seven horse field before closing off strongly into third. He clearly should’ve finished closer, and we want to be with him second-up here. Reece Jones gets a 1.5kg claim here to see Spacewalk with just 51.5kg and we think the instruction from the Godolphin team will be to press forward and lead from barrier six and take all luck out of the equation. If he can bowl along here and find a cheap sectional or two, this son of Exosphere will be too speedy for his opposition on Saturday afternoon.

Best Value at Rosehill: Super Strike
Super Strike is a horse that looks to peak fourth-up in the preparation and we’re happy to be with him on the each-way basis in the penultimate. He’s had three solid performances so far since arriving in Australia and while his latest behind Jojo Was A Man on Christmas Eve at Randwick may have seemed a little one paced, it was in a small field with very little tempo. That shouldn’t be the case getting back to Rosehill in a bigger field where we loved his performance over the 1400m behind Cavalier Charles just 1.5 lengths away. If this Super Easy gelding can run up to that effort, he should be right in this. In form apprentice Amy McLucas gets the 3kg claim and for the first time there’s a possibility he sees a wet deck since arriving from New Zealand which will only be a positive. The $9.50 on offer with online betting sites makes him a great each-way bet on Saturday.
