Metropolitan racing heads to Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday afternoon for a mammoth 10-race program for punters to sink our teeth into. We’ve got a Soft 5 track listed for Saturday and only a minor chance of rain on the forecast, so look for a possible upgrade to the Good 4 range.
The rail is out +3m the entire circuit and should play relatively evenly throughout the day, so hopefully there won’t be any on speed bias come Saturday afternoon. The first race is scheduled to get us underway from 12:20pm AEDT
Best Bet: Spacewalk
Saturday afternoon sees the return of the James Cummings-trained Spacewalk in the first leg of the quaddie, and we think he can resume a winner in this BM88 sprinting contest. His form from last preparation jumps off the page with his last run coming against Buenos Noches on September 10 being beaten by 0.4 lengths, after getting the race taken off him on an iffy protest lodged against him. His first-up effort behind Zoukerino in the Rosebud at the beginning of his campaign also caught the eye, so being first up here after 126-days isn’t a concern, especially after an impressive trial at Warwick Farm to boot. He gets in with the feather weight of 53kg and despite some of his key rivals having fitness on their side, Spacewalk can lob a beautiful spot for Tyler Schiller from barrier 3, before powering down the middle of the track to score.

Next Best: Thalassophile
Thalassophile has been improving with every start this campaign and finds the 2000m for the first time in her career on Saturday afternoon. She’s been finding the line strongly and crying out for this sort of trip after an impressive performance in the Belle Of The Turf on December 28 beaten 2.5 lengths by eventual winner Deny Knowledge. She hit the line from well back in the field after missing the start and weaved a passage between gallopers that were nothing but obstacles to her being closer in the finish. She drawn to get a perfect run In transit from barrier five, and Jockey Ben Coen looks to be finding his feet during this Australian stint, so provided Thalassophile can get some cover mid-race, despite this being a very open affair, we’re happy to side with this Chris Waller-trained four-year-old in the penultimate.

Best Value: Jewellery
The last race of the program sees the best each-way bet of the afternoon as Jewellery presents great value with online bookmakers. She goes against the older horses here at BM78 level after a disappointing effort at Canterbury on December 16 when defeated by Walkintalkin by 2.1 lengths getting way too far out of her ground in a race where you just couldn’t swoop from the back. Take her on the first-up win as she demolished her rivals in her own age group to score with relative ease, and since her failure last time out, her subsequent trial was outstanding and tells us she’s back on track here coming to Rosehill. It’s the second time we’ll be siding with the Tyler Schiller and James Cummings combination, and if Jewellery can overcome barrier-10 in this competitive field, we feel this can be a two time winning combination come the end of the Rosehill program.
