Rocketing By, Jamaea ready to win | The Follow Files

HorseBetting blackbook tips

On this week’s edition of The Follow Files, we are focussing on three races from the Randwick meeting. The Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) produced a number of eye-catching runs, while there were a few fast-finishing horses to follow out of the lesser Group races.

Royal Randwick | Track: Soft 5 | Rail: +3m Entire

Race 5: Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) | Time: 1:10.92

  • Horse to follow: ROCKETING BY (3rd)

We made ROCKETING BY our value pick at Randwick on Saturday, so his fast-finishing third was a pleasing sight for those of us who were on each-way. The David Pfeiffer-trained galloper got back to last in a solidly run 1200m race, but the ground he had to make up at the end of the race was near impossible given he spotted Showmanship a fair buffer. That was just his second run for the preparation and his second off a lengthy spell, so he is sure to take even more improvement out of that.

When to bet: This looks about his grade, so Pfeiffer will be looking for similar races in Sydney for him this preparation. A race like the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) in three weeks at Rosehill would be right up his alley.

Race 7: Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) | Time: 1:03.98

  • Horse to follow: JAMAEA (2nd)

JAMAEA has always been a mare with oodles of ability, so we are confident she will find a nice race this preparation. While she hasn’t won since the Furious Stakes (1200m) a year ago, the Rob & Luke Price-trained four-year-old has been in the minor money on three separate occasions, while she wasn’t all that far away in the Golden Rose (1400m). She, too, got a long way back on Saturday and had a big task ahead of her, but she closed off really nicely behind a smart one in Zapateo.

When to bet: A race like the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 10 would be the logical next step for Jamaea before she pushes towards the Golden Eagle (1500m) in late October.

Race 8: Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) | Time: 1:24.23

  • Horse to follow: BENAUD (6th) & STOCKMAN (9th)

The first Group 1 of the 2021/22 racing season was a ripper, with star four-year-old Anamoe proving too strong for both Fangirl and Profondo. There was plenty of merit in those horses’ runs, but we want to touch on a couple of the resuming stayers. Both BENAUD and STOCKMAN were terrific through the line and they look to be back in a big way.

When to bet: While these two horses are likely to be on a similar path towards The Metropolitan (2400m), we think it will be worth following the pair of them as they get out over longer trips. Their prices on Saturday suggested they weren’t winning chances, but gee they were good.
