2021 January Cup Horse Betting Preview
The Listed January Cup is the feature race at Randwick on Saturday. A field of 10 has been assembled for the 2000m affair, which sees last start Summer Cup winner, Spirit Ridge start the $2.60 favourite. There looks to be a bit of speed on paper, with Wolfe and Gone Bye likely to show pace from their soft draws, while Spirit Ridge will cross from out in the deep.
The 2021 running of the January Cup is set to jump at 5pm AEDT. Horsebetting.com.au has done the form and arrived our 2021 January Cup racing tips for this years race.
2021 January Cup Best Bet – #11 Fulmina @ $5.50
Fulmina put in an improved effort at Gosford in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf last time out when fourth behind Threeood. She typically is a get back, run on type of mare, but being drawn in barrier 11 here, she has the ability to settle a touch closer to the speed. She enters with just 53.5kg and has Kerrin McEvoy on board, which is a big plus. We expect another improved showing here, and at $5.50 with most racing bookies, we are happy to bet.
2021 January Cup Next Best – #2 Spirit Ridge @ $2.60
Spirit Ridge toughed it out in the Summer Cup to win by a long neck over Best Of Days. The import joined the Newnham stable in May last year, but this is the first preparation he’s made it past the one run; so we can finally see his ability. From barrier 12, Robbie Dolan will push forward and essentially mirror his win on Boxing Day. He rises 2.5kg off that win, but he is racing fit and should have enough class to figure here.
2021 January Cup Best Value – #3 Laure Me In @ $4.80
David Pfeiffer’s gelding Laure Me In rarely runs a bad race, so we can’t leave him out of our picks here. The six-year-old has finished in the quinella on 16 occasions from 32 starts, which is made up of six wins and 10 runner-up performances. From barrier nine, Jay Ford will take the gelding towards the tail of the field, but there looks to be a good tempo in the race, which should suit here.
