Racing officials have transferred Saturday’s Civic Stakes meeting from Randwick to Rosehill in response to the NSW government’s latest COVID orders.
The Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW announced the shift on Friday after the state government announced anyone living or working in a number of Sydney’s eastern suburbs areas, including Randwick, must stay at home.
The Randwick local government area has been one of the regions most heavily impacted by Sydney’s COVID outbreak.
Only essential staff will be allowed trackside at Rosehill, along with owners who have horses competing on the nine-race program.
“Due to the evolving nature of COVID cases and as a precautionary measure, the race meeting will be closed to ATC members and the general public, with those restrictions to be reviewed next week,” Racing NSW advised in a statement.
Racing officials confirmed all race times and distances would remain the same, aside from the Garry Burgess Handicap, which will be reduced from 1600m to 1500m.
