Queensland star Vanna Girl retired

Vanna Girl news

Toby & Trent Edmonds have announced the retirement of Vanna Girl, ending a successful career on the track that earned connections more than $500,000 in prizemoney.

The now five-year-old mare finishes with 23 race starts for eight wins and four minor placings, with a career peak coming during the 2020 Brisbane Winter Carnival.

During that season, Vanna Girl won four consecutive races, including the Listed Daybreak Lover, Listed Pam O’Neill Stakes and the Group 2 The Roses.

The Edmonds stable certainly did not shy away from travelling Vanna Girl outside of Queensland, as she had 10 interstate runs in races like the Epsom Handicap, Empire Rose Stakes and Queen of the Turf.

Vanna Girl was never successful outside of Queensland, with her two best results outside of her home state seeing her run third in both the Craven Plate at Randwick – behind Think It Over and Nettoyer – and the Listed Ballarat Cap.

Her run in the Ballarat Cup was ultimately her last career start, going down by two-tenths of a length to Zayydani and Yonkers on November 20, 2021.

Since her last run, Vanna Girl has had a knee operation, while co-trainer Trent Edmonds told HorseBetting that he felt the “time was right” to call it a day on her career.

Vanna Girl retires with $541,000 in the bank for her connections and will now likely head to the Magic Millions Broodmare Sales, where she will no doubt be sought after.
