Donald Trump might not be everyone’s cup of tea but he is sure to be popular at Young Quinn Raceway on Wednesday.
The trotting version, that is.
The Nathan Williamson trained three-year-old named after America’s infamous past president comes into race 2 after an eye-catching performance at Wingatui.
Donald Trump came from a long way off the speed, powering home for third.
But it turned out he was going too fast, bringing on a late gallop.
“He was going that fast I probably pushed him into a gallop if anything,” Williamson said.
“He was going that quick.”
“Hopefully back on the grit on Wednesday, and if he can get a bit handier, it won’t be an issue.”
“If he trots, I’d like to think he would be hard to beat.”
Williamson also starts Glorafilia from his stable in race 8 on Wednesday.
The three-year-old should strip a better horse following her solid debut second at Ascot Park last month.
“It was just a sprint home her last start and she was pretty green.”
“She should be a lot better for that experience and I have been quite happy with her work.”
“Drawn 1, she should be a pretty good chance.”
Whata Razzle Dazzle looks one of the best of Williamson’s outside drives at Wednesday’s meeting.
The consistent Brian Norman trained pacer lines up in race 9 among a field he should be highly competitive in.
“He looks like a good chance,” Williamson said.
“He’s drawn handy enough (5) and he has got gate speed.”
“He is up to most of them in that field.”
The Norman trained Foxfire Easton looks a place and First4 chance in race 1.
As a maiden, the two-year-old has a hard task on his hands taking on smart recent winners in Hiranya and Duke Of Cornwall.
But the pacer could still run a tidy race.
Williamson also drives stablemates Sly Tricks (race 5) and Tad Lincoln (race 6) on Wednesday.
Williamson reported his stable star Pembrook Playboy has returned to work following his recovery from an injury that ruled him out of the New Zealand Cup.
After a brief spell, the reigning Southland horse of the year is jogging and will be built back to full fitness before resuming later in summer.
