Punt Drunk: A new cult hero set to debut at Pakenham on Friday

Horse Racing News & Stories

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is set to come to an end on Saturday and what a week it has been!

From countless losing betting tickets, to more mystery trifecta’s than you could count, some of still missed out on backing Gold Trip in his emphatic Melbourne Cup victory.

However, today’s Punt Drunk goes a little bit off broadway as we head to Pakenham’s Friday night meeting where an aptly named horse is making headlines for all the right reasons.

We will also have a look at our boy James McDonald’s book of rides on Champions Stakes Day and Matt Hill further stamping himself as the best caller in the country.

Our new favourite horse

Many a punter in recent weeks would be claiming Anamoe as their favourite horse going around at the moment and we do not blame them!

However, there is a debutant at Pakenham on Friday night who we are happy to claim as our #1.

Race 2 #3 Memumsmedad for John Allen.

Have a look at his Sire and Dam…

Fair play to whoever named this bloke and at $14 with online bookmakers, we’re happy to side with him on Friday night and hope he helps build a bank ahead of another massive weekend on the Rex Hunt.

How many winners will JMac end with?

It is officially James McDonald’s world and we are just living in it.

The superstar hoop has six wins to his name in the Melbourne Cup Carnival and is just four off equalling his haul of wins in last year’s carnival and he’s a big chance to do so.

He rides Nature Strip in the Champions Sprint and Anamoe in the Champions Stakes, who both expected to bolt in.

We also think he can win on the Chris Waller-trained Atishu in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes and when he partners Cascadian in the Champions Mile.

If you put those four into a four-leg multi, you get a handy price of $86 with online betting sites.

There’s your four JMac, and who is to say he cannot lift Viral (R1), Agnelli (R2), Sandpaper (R3), Great House (R4) or Treporti (R9) to help him further etch his name into racing folklore?

We said it before and we’ll say it again….it is JMac’s world and we’re just renting a little bit of space in it.

We bow to you Matt Hill

The Chris Waller-trained Roots carried the hopes of a nation on VRC Oaks Day on Thursday and clearly Matt Hill had her on the mind in the lead up to the race.

“Roots presents to the middle of the course and is starting to thrust now”

He continues to amaze us Matt Hill and just always hits the spot.
