The 2024 Pink Ribbon Raceweek is set to increase its backing for breast cancer research by involving the tri-code support between September 15 and 21 in raising funds for the cause.
The highlight of the week will be the edition of the Pink Ribbon Cup at Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
An important event that serves as Australia’s biggest official fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation!
Various racing codes will each hold their Pink Ribbon Cup races; the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club will kick off on September 19, followed by events at Albion Park Harness Racing Club and Gold Coast Turf Club on September 21.
The Toowoomba and Sunshine Coast Turf Clubs will also turn pink for their meetings on September 14 and 15, respectively.
Pink rugs, saddles, helmet caps, and pink silk pants will be on full display across all three codes.
The victory of any horse or greyhound in the #8 silks or rugs during the timeframe will lead to a contribution towards breast cancer research.
Pink Ribbon Cup founder Robyn Cameron said another big crowd of almost 900 people would be attending the official National Breast Cancer Foundation event on the Gold Coast.
“The event continues to get bigger and bigger – we sold out a few weeks back at the Gold Coast and have had to put extra tables on,” Cameron said.
“For the first time, people that can’t attend can still be involved by buying a virtual table or seat – you can still contribute to breast cancer research even if you can’t come.
“It’s a great way to get some additional funding and anyone can take part, it doesn’t matter where you are.
“Every year 21,000 Australians are diagnosed including 200 men, and around a thousand of those diagnosed are women under the age of 40.
“There are about three women under 40 who are diagnosed every day, which is insane.
“I’m sure there are so many people out there that are in that same boat so it brings home the importance of this event.”
Since 2007, Robyn, who has overcome breast cancer twice, has been fundraising for research purposes.
The aim of the National Breast Cancer Foundation is to eliminate all fatalities caused by breast cancer by the year 2030.
