Due to track renovations, the Bunbury Turf Club will hold its annual South West Autumn Cup Day this Sunday afternoon on the Scarpside course at Pinjarra Park. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with no rain expected in the area on Saturday or Sunday, we expect to be racing on a perfect surface for the duration of the meeting. After racing with the rail in the +6m position on Thursday, the rail will be returned to the true position for Sunday’s meeting. The first race will jump at 1:40pm AWST, with the $125,000 South West Autumn Cup feature set for 4:55pm.
South West Autumn Cup Tip: No Apology
The main event of the day will be the Listed South West Autumn Cup over 2200m, in which we will again back Stephen Miller’s No Apology, who we backed in the Bunbury Cup last start. This six-year-old gelding appeared to have the Bunbury Cup in his grasp in the final 150m, but Blazing Away powered over the top of him late to finish second for the second time in a row. This son of Declaration Of War is racing in great form this time around, and now that he is at peak fitness and will be stepping up in distance to 2200m on Sunday, he looks primed to break through for his first win of the preparation. Lucy Fiore will ride No Apology again after riding him in his previous five starts, and if she can get him to settle outside the leader or in a one-one, he should be too strong in the final stages.

Best Bet at Pinjarra: I Love Your Smile
Our best bet for the day at Pinjarra will be the Lucy Fiore-trained I Love Your Smile, who finished second in a 1600m Maiden Plate at Belmont on March 15. This three-year-old filly is working her way up to a win, and she seems to get better and better the further her races go, so now that she is stepping up to 1800m for the first time, it appears to be the ideal race for her to break her maiden in. At her most recent start, this daughter of Sebring sat near the back of the field and had to make up over eight lengths on a runaway leader with 600m to go, and she nearly made it, only falling short by half a length on the line. With a lot of speed expected in this race on Sunday, it should be ideal for this filly, who clearly wants more distance and has a good turn of foot. Lucy Fiore will ride her filly again, and if she rides her like she did last time, she should be breaking her maiden at start number six.

Next Best Bet at Pinjarra: Mack Mack
The fifth race of the day will be a Class 3 Handicap over 1400m where the Dion Luciani-trained Mack Mack looks primed to bring up his third win of his career at his third start this preparation, coming off an unlucky third place finish at Ascot over 1400m on March 11. This son of All American won his third-up start over the same distance last preparation, and after closing off nicely in the final 200m, he looks ready to maintain his unbeaten third-up record. During his first two racing preparations, this three-year-old gelding raced against the best three-year-olds in Western Australia, so his form is excellent for a Class 3 Handicap against older horses. Patrick Carbery will ride Mack Mack for the third time this time in, and if he can settle him outside the leader from a wide barrier (7), he will be difficult to beat in the final 200m.
