Racing in Western Australia heads to Pinjarra Park on Sunday for the Listed South West Cup over 2300m. HorseBetting’s WA racing analyst brings you his best bet in the feature race, as well as his best bets and quaddie numbers throughout the rest of the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out just the 1m for the entire course. The first of eight is scheduled to jump at 1:23pm AWST.
Listed South West Cup Best Bet – Queen Takes King
Lindsay Smith’s mare Queen Takes King has not done much since her last win some 12 months ago, but she has only raced four times in that time. The grey mare by Charm Spirit has won five of her 15 starts, with those five wins coming over distances between 1700m and 2400m, so the 2300m of this race won’t be an issue. First-up, Smith sent the five-year-old around in a 1600m Class 5 at this track where she was never going to be competitive, but she did hit the line well over the mile. Out to 2300m should suit, she should take plenty of benefit from her first-up run and she gets in well with just 54kg. Joseph Azzopardi can get the best out of her in the Listed feature.
Best Bet – Double Spice
Neil Dellar and young-gun apprentice Jett Stanley combine in the fifth with talented sprinter Double Spice. The five-year-old son of Gingerbread Man has won three of his last four starts and was only narrowly defeated last time out at Esperance in a heat of the Provincial Championship Series. He lines up in another one of those heats on Sunday, but he rises from 1100m to 1200m which will suit, while he drops 3kg down to 58kg from that last run, so he is much more suited in this. From barrier seven, Stanley will take him to the front and he should prove too slick for his rivals.
Next Best – Steel’s The Deel
Race four sees Chris & Michael Gangemi saddle up four-year-old gelding Steel’s The Deel. The son of Dundeel is yet to win in his seven starts, but he has been knocking on the door with three minor placings, all of which have come at his last three starts. Shaun O’Donnell has ridden this gelding on a few occasions, so his return to the saddle should be advantageous, while barrier four will allow him to settle a bit closer in the run than what we have seen recently. 1300m again should suit.
