Picnic at Caulfield for Annavisto

Talented four-year-old Annavisto (NZ) (Reliable Man) advanced her record to five wins from ten starts, when comfortably taking out the 4CYTE for Living Legends Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Prepared by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr, Annavisto found the lead under John Allen who then controlled the tempo, turning the race into a dash home and ultimately an easy watch for punters that supported the mare into favoritism.

“I thought it was this little party going on out there for Johnny Allen, so it was good,” Price said.

“I know it was only benchmark 90 mares race but it was still good, it vindicates not running her from a bad gate (last time in the Cockram) but running her in the right race.

“She’s a good mare and I’ll probably bite the bullet in one of those mile races and if she has to go to the front, she has to go to the front.

“She’s got that cranky bit about her where you don’t want to have to wrestle with her. One day she might learn.”

Already a Listed winner at three, Price will look to add further black-type to the record of the mare who sports the colours of Bill Frost’s Pendant Equine.

Annavisto was identified by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo and purchased out of Tony Pike’s stable in New Zealand after winning a trial at Te Teko in February of last year.

Amongst the ownership are a number of former AFL stars including Essendon’s Jobe Watson.

Bred by Greg Tomlinson, who remains in the ownership, Annavisto is by Westbury Stud stallion Reliable Man out of the Tavistock mare, Avisto, a multiple stakes winner.
