What Pakenham Races
Where Pakenham Racecourse – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813
When Thursday, April 7, 2022
First Race 5:45pm AEST

Pakenham will host an eight-race card in the Thursday afternoon twilight position with the rail out 7m and the first race for the three-year-old fillies over 1600m at 5:45pm AEST.

All races have eight or more runners engaged, which is a positive for punters, with the quaddie kicking off at 7:45pm.

A mixture of novice and experienced runners start the quaddie leg in race five with Miss Jennifer having just her second start for Enver Jusufovic, while Be Miss Luchy is having her 74th start for Jason Benbow.

BEST BET: SEACOLE

Seacole looks like she can take the next step after winning at Kilmore on January 11 over 1450m whilst starting a $1.60 favourite. On that occasion she got the money by two lengths and she has had a 10-week let up since that performance so the Maher & Eustace team must think she is ready to produce her best again. She has Jye McNeil on board this time and from the draw we expect her to settle around fourth in the run. Her two best efforts were on good tracks, so the Soft 5 is a small query. Mick Kent’s Sacred Code looks to be a clear danger with the in-form Damien Lane in the saddle.

Best BetRace 6 – Seacole $1.90 with Ladbrokes

NEXT BEST: BELLSPROUT

This Cindy Alderson gelding is going well and will go close again over the 1400m despite a poor barrier in 11. He was beaten 0.3 lengths last start at Sandown Hillside when running third with 200m to go. He arguably should have won. Before that he ran two handy jumpouts at Cranbourne, and with Jordan Childs on board we think he will be hitting the line hard again. He does meet more experienced rivals this time, but if he can cross over from the wide barrier, he just may settle around fourth, one out and one back preferably. Tactics from Childs will be crucial.

Next BestRace 2 – Bellsprout $2.40 with Ladbrokes

BEST VALUE: EXCEED EXPECT

This three-year-old could be value after missing a placing (5th) last start at this track. He didn’t have much luck on that occasion as they went a bit quick up front, but now after a short freshen up, we think he can cross from barrier nine and be in this for a long way. Team Hawkes’ Skywolf will start favourite with online bookmakers and will be hardest to beat. He has the inside barrier and may push forward as well as he usually settles on speed. If that’s the case and he leads, Exceed Expect may have to sit on his outside of him and eyeball before the home turn.

Best ValueRace 8 – Exceed Expect $6.50 with Ladbrokes
