Best Bet at Pakenham: Happy Link
Greg Eurell’s Happy Link was the latest victim of the ‘barrier one curse’ at Moonee Valley on debut, running up plenty of backsides approaching the home turn before launching late to finish a half-length back in third. The Toronado filly didn’t see clear air until the final 100m and arguably would have won with even luck in running. Jamie Kah should be able to put her in a better spot from barrier nine on Sunday, preferably outside the leader or in the one-one. From there, Happy Link should have no issue kicking clear from her rivals and righting those wrongs from an unlucky debut.

Next Best at Pakenham: Artistic Genius
Artistic Genius returns from a six-month spell and only needs to replicate what he put forward in his first two starts to win here. The three-year-old gelding saluted on debut at Cranbourne before running within two lengths of the Group 1-quality Rey Magnerio at Sale. Daniel Stackhouse will have the son of Flying Artie settled midfield with a touch of cover, and barring any bad luck, Artistic Genius should prove too classy for his rivals.

Best Value at Pakenham: Dancinginthedark
Dancinginthedark from the Mick Kent barn brought up an overdue victory at Yarra Valley on February 24 when storming home late to win in a restricted BM58. Despite this being a restricted BM64, the Testa Rossa mare looks well placed against a field that is no harder than what she beat last time out. Barrier 18 is offset by the fact she gets back in the field upon settling, and if she gets a genuinely run 1600m affair, Dancinginthedark has the finishing burst to blouse her rivals and salute a nice price with horse racing bookies.

Race 8 – #11 Dancinginthedark (18)
5yo Mare | T: Mick Kent | J: Ethan Brown (59.5kg)
