Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Thursday night and Horsebetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets, free quaddie picks and odds supplied by leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 4m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 5:45pm AEDT.
Pakenham Best Bet – Fac
Our best bet comes up in the penultimate event of the night, when we give the Greg Eurell-trained Fac another chance. The four-year-old gelding out of The Factor was made to carry 64kg at the Pakenham 1200m, but ultimately found one the better over the concluding stages. He plummets in the weights needing to carry just 59kg and from barrier four should gain every favour in the running. Damian Lane sticks on board which is a massive bonus and with even luck in the home straight, Fac should prove too good for this lot. He has four runner-up efforts from eight runs, so if he can put his bridesmaid tag to the side, then he looks a clear bet at Pakenham on Thursday night.
Next Best Bet at Pakenham – Letzxcel
The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Letzxcel was a dominant winner at Cranbourne on January 7 and looks well placed as he steps up into Class 1 company. He is set to go around at $11 from Sportsbet which is an absurd price in our most humble opinion. The three-year-old son of Exceed and Excel rolls forward and dictates terms from barrier 12 has the early speed to cross the field with relevant ease. With a lot of his rivals expected to take a sit off the speed, we expect to see Letzxcel to get a quiet time of it out in front. Craig Newitt rates them as well as anyone out in front and we anticipate Letzxcel will be too hard to run down in the second leg of the quaddie.
Best Value Bet at Pakenham – Rupert’s Delight
Despite being a 10-start maiden, the Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock-trained Rupert’s Delight looks a good bet as he looks well-placed to break his maiden. The three-year-old son of Winning Rupert was last seen finishing third at the Kilmore 1450m and we expect the step up to the mile looks ideal. From barrier 15, we expect Patrick Moloney to be aggressive from the wide barrier and if he can settle Rupert’s Delight outside the leader, he will take a power of beating. He is deep into his campaign and with race fitness and decent enough form on his side, we are more than happy to take the $12 on offer.
