The heats of the Future Stars Series continue at Pakenham Racing Club this Wednesday night with a very competitive eight-race program. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and despite some rain forecast for Melbourne and surrounds this week, warm weather means we should see a Good track on race day. The rail will be in the +9m position for the entire circuit for the twilight meeting, and the first race will jump at 5:35pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Pakenham: Aperol Blitz
Our best bet of the night at Pakenham will be the Nick Ryan-trained Aperol Blitz who won quite convincingly on debut at Benalla, when she ran away from the rest of the field to win by just under two lengths over 1106m on January 5. This three-year-old filly sat behind the speed on debut, before pulling out three-wide on the home turn to go past the leaders stylishly and put them away within a 100m. No horses have come out and won at their next start after finishing behind this filly last start, but the second placegetter (Rubikai) did go to Pakenham on January 12 and ran fourth behind a couple of smart ones in a Future Stars heat. Blake Shinn will jump aboard for this start on Wednesday night, and from barrier five we should see this her settle just behind the speed once again and look to replicate her debut win.

Next Best at Pakenham: Dancinginthedark
After tipping Dancinginthedark from the Mick Kent yard last start at Cranbourne over 1400m on January 13, we will be giving her one more chance to break her maiden in one of the weakest races that she has contested. Last start Ethan Brown settled this daughter of Testa Rossa at the rear of the field and as he went to make his run, this filly was blocked by a runner outside of her and she ran up behind a lot of slow horses. Once Brown got her to the outside she let down with that nice turn of foot we saw at her debut run at Cranbourne on December 29. From barrier six on Wednesday night, Brown won’t have to drop too far back. He should have her midfield on the outside and if she gets a clear run from the 400m mark, she should be winning.

Next Best Again at Pakenham: Governor
The fifth heat of the Future Stars will be run and won on Wednesday night over 1200m from the chute start. Mike Moroney will bring his four-year-old gelding, Governor, to Cranbourne for the first time after running second over 1000m at Yarra Glen on January 10, when he burst through the pack on the inside and only went down by half a head on the line. Now that this son of I Am Invincible steps out to 1200m on Wednesday and should get a similar run in transit just behind the leaders from barrier seven, this guy should show that he needs the extra distance to perform at his very best. Jamie Mott will stick with this gelding after riding him last start and if he can stay out of trouble and get a cart into the race three-wide, this guy should be going very close to breaking his maiden at start number five.
