Thursday night racing once again heads to Pakenham Racecourse, where eight races are set down for decision. With an improving track expected owing to nice weather in Melbourne’s south-east we anticipate to be racing on a Soft 5 come race one, if not potentially with an upgrade into the Good range. Despite plenty of racing at the track in recent times, the rail returns to the true position for the meeting commencing at 5:45pm AEST.
Best Bet at Pakenham: Demon Blood
There is little doubt that if Demon Blood ran in a straight line first-up from a spell, he would have got the cash at Ballarat on March 5. The four-year-old from the Clint McDonald barn now strikes a winnable Class 1, which is promising given he broke his maiden second-up in January last year. Barrier 14 is offset by the fact he is a genuine backmarker, and considering the long run to the winning post at Pakenham, he will be given every chance to make his move down the outside. He showed a nice finishing sprint at Ballarat, and in a race that isn’t much harder, Demon Blood should be too strong late for his rivals.

Race 5 – #5 Demon Blood (14)

Next Best at Pakenham: Morpheus Bragi
Carlo Vidotto and Clay Beasy will be hoping Morpheus Bragi can make it three wins from as many starts at the Pakenham 1200m when he steps out in the final race of the night. The three-year-old gelding disposed of his rivals in BM58 grade last time out when gaining a gun run in transit and pouncing inside the final furlong to win in impressive fashion. He draws to gain a similar run in this race on Thursday from barrier one under Rhys McLeod. The Wrote gelding will need a touch of luck at some point in the home straight, but if he finds clear air at the right time, Morpheus Bragi should continue his strong affiliation with the Pakenham 1200m.

Best Value at Pakenham: Chase De Ace
We will be looking to make an instant impact on Thursday night when the Trevor Rogers-trained Chase De Ace hunts for his maiden success at start 11. It took the Group 1-placed Aberfeldie Boy to finish over the top of him at the Pakenham 1600m a fortnight ago, and with a return to the track and trip, we expect it’ll be 11th time lucky. The son of De Gaulle gets the applications of blinkers for the first time, and if Zac Spain can use barrier five and his early speed to his advantage, he should gain an uncontested lead throughout. If Chase De Ace can find the lead and offer a kick in the home straight, we expect he will prove too hard to gun down.
Best Value
Race 1 – #1 Chase De Ace (5)
4yo Gelding | T: Trevor Rogers | J: Zac Spain (59.5kg)
