Racing returns to Pakenham on Thursday night for the track’s weekly eight-race program. The surface is rated a Soft 7 owing to the wet weather the region has received over the Easter long weekend. With plenty of meetings in recent times, the rail comes out 9m the entire circuit and the fresh turf should see the track to play as fair as ever. The action from Pakenham commences at 5:45pm AEST.
Best Bet at Pakenham: Le Ferrari
In the closer, the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Le Ferrari will be looking to go one better than his second at the Pakenham 1600m on March 30. The three-year-old gelding finished 3.5 lengths off the progressive Glove on that occasion, but his front-running win at Ballarat the start prior showed enough to say he should be winning on Thursday night. The Toronado gelding draws perfectly in barrier three under Daniel Stackhouse, and in a race where he should gain a relatively easy lead, we’re hoping he can kick off the home bend and have too much of a gap for his rivals to bridge in the final 50m.

Next Best at Pakenham: Our Goddess
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we will be hoping the Clint McDonald-trained Our Goddess can bounce back from a below-par showing at Moonee Valley on March 24. The four-year-old mare was simply outclassed in a tougher race than what she faces on Thursday and looks well-placed despite needing to lug 60.5kg. Michael Dee will look to have this Shalaa mare settled up on speed, and with an improving track expected she could prove too hard to run down on the back of a strong front-running steer.

Next Best Again at Pakenham: Aberfeldie Boy
First-up from a near six-month spell, we are hoping the Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained Aberfeldie Boy can strike over 1600m. The three-year-old gelding was last seen finishing strongly into third behind Manzoice and Sharp ‘N’ Smart in the Group 1 Victoria Derby last spring and arguably should have finished closer than the 1.75-length margin suggests. The three-year-old gelding was held up for a run at a crucial point but showed a nice turn of foot to suggest he could come back bigger and better in the autumn. He draws to gain a perfect run in transit from barrier four under Craig Newitt, and a well-timed sprint should have Aberfeldie Boy hitting the line with intent and proving too good for maiden company this time in.
