We head to Orange on Monday where they will host the solitary New South Wales meeting of the day, when they hold a very competitive seven-race card. The track is currently rated a Good 4, however, there is rain forecast for Monday so we may be on a softer track come race day. The rail will be in the in the 3.5m position for the entire circuit, outside of the home straight where the cutaway will be applied.
The first race will jump at 1:10pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Orange – Semana
Our best bet of the day will come up in the Class 1 Handicap over 1400m, where we will be siding with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Semana. This three-year-old filly will be at her third career start, where she will looking for her second win after running third last start at Gosford over 1200m. At her last start this daughter of Winning Rupert was left a bit flat-footed around the bend but in the final 100m she started to charge at the winner and missed by just under a length. On Monday she will rise in distance to 1400m and if her strong finish from last start is anything to go by, she will eat up the 1400m and be very strong late. From barrier two, she should find the one-one and look to come off the leaders back around the home turn. With even luck, she should be winning.

Next Best at Orange – Covalent
In the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1280m, the Bjorn Baker-trained Covalent looks to have found another nice race where she can record her second win of her short career. This three-year-old filly has finished in the top two at her last two starts, including a win two starts back over 1300m at Taree on November 28. At Bathurst last start, this girl was left in front a little bit too far from home as she hit the front at the 250m mark, before being run over last by a fast finishing Possibly So in the final 100m. On Monday, this daughter of I Am Invincible has drawn barrier two and she will be aided by the 2kg claim of Ashleigh Stanley, which will have her in this race very well in the weights, as she will only carry 1kg more than the minimum. She will settle on pace again from barrier two and if she doesn’t have to do too much work, she will go close once again.

Best Value at Orange – Great Buy
In the final event of the day, Brett Robb has his six-year-old gelding, Great Buy, engaged in the Benchmark 74 Handicap over 1400m. This son of Helmet had finished in the top four in three races in a row, before going to town on last start and finished 10th of 11 over 1500m at Rosehill. His last start in town proved that he wasn’t up to the city class horses, so now that he drops back to country racing and finds a very winnable race over a suitable distance, she is worth a bet at $9 with online bookmakers.
