The Beaumont track at Newcastle is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s NSW racing analyst presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 2m the entire circuit, for the meeting getting underway at 1:15pm AEDT.
Newcastle Best Bet – Perfect Point
Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening event of the day, when the Mark Minervini-trained Perfect Point looks to build on his debut second-place finish at the Newcastle 900m. The three-year-old son of Bull Point steps up to the 1150m second-up in his career and from barrier five, Serg Lisnyy is bound to have him in a positive position in running. With First Peoples set to make this a genuinely run affair, the race will be set up for someone like a Perfect Point to take a sit off the speed and finish over the top of his rivals and continue his fine start to his career.
Next Best at Newcastle – Dawnburst
One of our better bets on the day comes up in the final event of the day when the Kris Lees-trained Dawnburst looks to build on her impressive start to this campaign. The three-year-old Real Impact filly has a win at Port Macquarie this campaign and has backed it up with consecutive minor placings. She comes to Newcastle fourth-up from a spell and should be reaching peak fitness and from barrier three Madi Derrick should have no issue in having Dawnburst settled close to the speed. Her win at Port Macquarie earlier in the campaign saw her settle off the speed and knuckled down late to claim victory, if she repeats that here, she looks the clear and obviously way to blow out in the last.
Newcastle Value Bet – Manabar
In the second leg of the quaddie, we are happy to side with the Michelle Fleming-trained Manabar who comes to Newcastle on the back of a narrow defeat to Beckford on November 30 at Tamworth. Beckford goes around as a genuine chance in Sunday’s Armidale Cup, so if he comes out and wins there, then the form is clearly franked for Manabar’s chances on Monday. The nine-year-old son of Manhattan Rain managed to lead the field up last time out and simply found one better over the final 100m. From barrier seven, look for Jeff Penza to roll forward on Monday, but with speed drawn outside of him, he may opt to take a sit off the speed. If he can settle in the trailing role, then there’s no reason why Manabar cannot score here.
